 Quality powder funnel?

This may be a stupid question, but who makes the best quality funnel?

I have learned a valuable lesson last night that equates to 1=0 , 2=1 . the funnel going bad made my relaxing session come to a halt. now I'm bummed out and will try and rig something up (medicine dropper) to the funnel to make it work until I can get one ....errr 2 more.

The Lee hand press Funnel gave up the ghost last night and allowed the .223 case necks to slip right through the middle causing powder to accumulate around the case neck that was higher than the funnel. Spilling powder as I with draw the funnel is not cool!

Thanks!

I've been using a RCBS funnel for the past 30 years; haven't worn it out yet.

I use Midway's. It comes with a drop tube shown, and a bunch of funnel mouths that you change to fit every cartridge.

Cut the top off an old 223/556 case...

JB Weld the piece of brass into the funnel

Now you set the funnel over a 22 centerfire case mouth and not have to worry about case mouth come through funnel

That is very interesting. It will do multiple calibers? It also looks just right for compressed loads.

Thank You!

That little trick may just save me from having to purchase more than one new funnel.

THANK YOU!!!

+1 I have the same funnel set and it works great, MTM also makes the Midway funnel set Dryflash has shown above.

I also use and really like the Saturn powder funnels, I have three of them and they are very nice and will last forever.

I can't find the one Dryflash has on Midway. Only thing that resembles it is the one made by Frankford Arsenal

I just pulled the trigger on the Forster Blue Ribbon with 5" drop tube. I'll see how works with Varget.

+1 on satern funnels.

you can get them caliber specific or a universal type. they are a quality item and worth the price.

they sit rock steady on the cartridge. no spillage, no static, and are made of spun aluminum with a brass mouth.

i can't comment on their universal type funnels, but am sure they work great too.

Saturn is great IF its assembled right the brass to alum seam was not soldered properly on mine so i rebrazed it and made it a smooth seam rather than a groove the powder would get caught in.

The Midway funnels don't rock either.

You have to decide if you want a set or buy individual funnels.

I always thought the little powder tray with the built-in funnel was a very cool item. You throw powder in the pan to weigh, then place cartridge in opening and tip the pan up. The built-in funnel sends all the powder into the case. This makes the entire issue of funnel tipping irrelevant - it doesn't happen. One item that does it all. They're inexpensive, too.

So far I have only one set of dies. When I go for the 9mm and 300 winmag the set will be more of a necessity. so I'm thinking go with the set.

A few minutes ago I took a case as suggested in an earlier post and cut the top out of it and JB welded it into the funnel I already have. It wasn't a perfect fit so I did some fitting with some tapping here and there I was able to flare the case so that a resized case fits really well inside. When the JB weld sets up firm I will do some final fitting where the case neck meets the funnel so that the powder don't hang on there. This was a really easy project and it saved me some money temporarily.

Thanks!

I have seen those. I have been wondering if you can see the case opening when the funnel is over it. Looks like a nifty little option.

Thanks!

I have that exact one, replaced the tray that came with my RCBS Chargemaster. Just needed to glue a quarter to the bottom of it.

I'll check later today.

Why do you want to see the opening?

It's a handy item. A regular funnel requires manipulating three items with two hands - a case, a funnel and a powder pan. With this thing, there are two items and two hands = much easier.

I'm sorry, but $10 to $20 for a small metal funnel and you need a different one for every cartridge/calliber is absurd. I'm sure it's a great money maker for them but is not so hot from my perspective.

Having said that, I do like metal funnels more than plastic. Plastic funnels tend to charge up with static and can slow or stop the flow of powder into the case. When I use my Powder Pal, I make sure I tap the base of the case on the table top to ensure all the powder goes into the case.

I like to see if there is any powder hanging onto the case neck. I hate to pull of the funnel and see powder spill around the case.

Thanks!

Oh, now I understand your question.

When you tip the case/funnel to the side to pour the powder into the case, the opening comes clearly into view and you will know when the powder is in the case. I always tap the case head on the bench top, then remove the funnel.

I really like the idea of gluing a quarter to the bottom of the funnel. It is thin plastic and is very light weight. This is not a durability issue, it is just so light (69 grains), I prefer things with a bit more HEFT.
