 75/77 grain OTM's for a RECCE

I am wanting to stock up a bit more for loading for a RECCE from High Caliber Sales. It is a Douglas 16" barrel with a chamber cut for Mk262.

I have a dwindling supply of Mk262, probably under 700 rounds. I am planning on placing an order for 500-1000 projectiles and am leaning toward the 77 grain SMK.

But I know there are other projectiles out now that I should at least consider. Am curious what others with carbines that shoot Mk262 well have tried. Either 69, 75, 77 or 80 grain. The barrel is a 7 twist BTW.

I have some some Nosler Custom comp 80's and some SMK's in 69 as well, so will be trying them.

Also wondering if anyone has better pricing than Midway. I live in MO and have to pay tax if I buy there.

I would try some Berger 73gr, along with their 70 and 75 types. The 70 and 75 are VLD designs, the 75 may be too long for mag length. I am hoping they have some of their "hybrid" designs out in .224 soon.

Yes, you are probably right.

I guess my issue is that I just want to stock up a it on a "sure thing" as I dont have the time to devote to do a lot of testing. I have a new 8" 300blk on the way and most of my free time will be working towards good loads for that.

Additionally, the RECCE has proven to shoot excellently with the Mk262, especially once the range is extended to 300 and beyond, which is almost exclusively the ranges I shoot with the RECCE.

Thinking I should, for simplicity's sake, just go with the 77SMK, since I know it works. Anyone know who is currently running good prices on them? I may just buy 1K and be done with it. My other "main" AR is a Spikes M4 with a 7 twist, so it would be fine with them too, if I were in a pinch.

The other bullet to try for magazine length loads is the Hornady 75 gr HPBT-M bullet.

I would try either the Hornady 75 gr or Nosler 77 gr bullet and see which shoots better...

Nosler 77's and 77 smk shoot good for me. What powder will you be using?

I just got 500 77SMKs w/c from mail order. I think that is going to be my new SHTF round, kinda like Mk262. I roll crimp, so put a little extra depth on their cannelure groove with a Corbin tool. I am working up with Varget. Currently at 24.5 g with no pressure signs at all using my 6920.
YMMV
If you have a taper or collet crimp die, the extra cannelure depth may be superfluous.
