 Broken Lee Universal Decapping Die

So, I just bought a Lee Universal Decapping Die b/c so many people recommended it for decapping military crimped brass. I put it in my press, first brass case, an RG headstamp 308 case, broke the decapping pin. I'm like what the hell? It's supposed to slide up, but it didn't do that. So now, I am wondering if I can get the decapping assembly or if I have to get the whole die. I know the die isn't expensive, but I'm disappointed that it broke with the first case.

Lee should gladly send you a replacement send them a photo and you can probably avoid having to send them the old part.
When you put the new one in don't crank down on the nut that holds it quite so much.

Sure you didn't hit a berdan primed case?

Might be a Berdan primed case. You can pick up spares at Midway:

Lee Decapping Die Replacement Pin

Always good to have an extra or two, especially if you pick up range brass. Never know when you'll make it become a "rock crusher".

That is all...

The part is only like 2 bucks but if you call Lee I'm sure they would send you a new one.

Having said that I'm betting you hit a berden primed case and IMHO you should eat the cost of a new de capping pin and write it off as a learning lesson. I'm not an advocate of manufacturers having to pay for re loaders mistakes. If I'm wrong on the berden primed case then Lee should replace the broken part.

If it's boxer primed it will have one centrally located flash hole. If it's berden primed you'll have 2 smaller holes slightly off center.

Report back with your findings.
