Also if you being lazy the price is $617.00 the barrel has a 1 in ten twist rate. the 5.45 kits are also 617 and have a 1 in 8 twist rate.

So MSAR is definitely cannibalizing the 6.8 and 5.45 guns for parts, and selling the conversion kits separately.

I talked with Ratworx this morning. They had "all" of the 7.62, 5.45, and 6.8's that MSAR made. They sold "all" of the 7.62's but not all of the others. They sent back the remaining 6.8's and 5.45's to MSAR which were about a half dozen of each. Those were canabalized to supply the kits. Ratworx also told me MSAR was "currently" making some "new production" E4's and that they would have them soon. I asked if they were being assembled from old parts from the old facility and he said "no, they are new production".

Take if for what it is worth,
MadDog

MSAR just received a bunch of "other caliber" E4s back from Ratworx, took out the barrels and bolts to sell separately, and now all of a sudden, MSAR is making "new production" rifles?

Rrrrriiiiight...

I hope that's the case, but the timing is amusing. Either way, I need to sell my 6.8 Mini-14 so I can pick up one of the 6.8 kits.

Thanks for the follow-up info MadDog!

1:8 for a 5.45x39? Definitely potential for key-holing with those long bullets. My Russian-barreled SGL-31 is 1:7.5 Not sure if half of an inch twist makes a difference, but a lot of the Century barrels with 1:8 twists have been keyholing like crazy. Why can't people just make them right instead of cutting corners?

I was looking at the kit and started looking at the mag. Finally the dim light went on in the smoky back rooms of my mind and I realized that's an AR style mag and so it is for the E4 only. I have a 4th gen 556. So I would need the E4 stock to use this......

It is not the 1:8 that is making the Century AK barrels keyhole, it is the fact they used oversized bores.

1:200mm is the twist rate on the standard AK-74, that translates to 1:7.9 inches

My Arsenal owner's manual says 1:195mm, which translates to 1:7.68 inches. I'm definitely not an expert on rifling twist, but if I paid $617 for a Soviet caliber conversion kit (more than 2/3 the cost of the complete proper Soviet-designed rifle that fires the round) I would want it to be exact Soviet specifications. Leave corner-cutting for Century. Why cut corners and do 1:8 when it takes the same amount of time and effort to do it the right way?

the .42" twist difference won't make a bit of difference in acc.
i thought paying the money for a stamped saiga..aka arsenal was a rip off. ak's to me are a $500 max weapon made from cheaply made parts.

I pulled the trigger on one this morning. The GM3 in my shop was on the phone with them at the same time and got one as well. Now to wait a week for them to get here.

Ratworx may still have spare E4 stocks, they did at least a few weeks ago.

That's OK, at least you were broke anyway.

I guess you pulled the loose change from under the car seats.

Sorry guys. I got the last 6.8 kit earlier today, along with an E4 stock with rounded receiver catch to go on my STG-556. Now I am trying to bring myself to sell my TPD AXR, serial number 100, but my grubby little hands don't seem to want to let go.

Don't do it. Chances are you would never see one again. Find some stuff you really don't need and sell that if you need the cash.

Why would you want to sell it? If you're feeling reluctant about it now, then you're gonna regret it if you do...

You are probably right. I have never sold a gun that I didn't regret it. I am just trying to justify having 2 AUG clones, especially now that I just dropped $900 on the 6.8 kit and E4 stock.

Off topic, but I know where there's a TPD AXR for sale, NIB. Guy has had it awhile and dropped the price from $2600 to $2300. It's one of the ones with the factory scope.

Picked up a box at the post office today. I ordered on Monday morning and it got here Friday morning. That is really good for Alaska.

Was it ever discussed what thread pitch the 6.8 barrels were in?

My barrel is marked 1/10

Just got my kit. Does your barrel have the 5.56 stamp covered over with 6.8?

I decided to dump my AXR. On sale in the EE along with a bunch of Steyr AUG parts I had for it.

I cannot look at mine right now, it is tied up with the movers for the next six to ten weeks. But mine did have the chamber area marked 6.8. The mark was on a bright section of the barrel. Hard to explain. I did not notice if it was marked 5.56 underneath.

And as far as your AXR goes, I think you are trying to get me killed. My wife was already not happy about the conversion.

I think it was 270 Rem barrel that was reamed out (or whatever they do) to 6.8 specs, not a 5.56 barrel. I think that was some barrel places did with extra 270 barrels.
