I sent my 01 FFL app in today, I built a small 10x10 office on my property and will be a "kitchen table" type dealer.

I have already got my EIN number, my buisness license, and have a safe ordered,

Is there any other loose ends you guys recommend taking care of thanks alot

EDIT: I have also got 1,000 buisness cards, flyers ect and my DBA name registered wit the state. Thanks for the posts keep them comming.
I also plan to start selling ammo and mags within the next month or so.

UPDTE 11-17-10:

Got the call today from the ATF to set up my interview on the 23rd, my interviewing agent will be Brian Scott.
Is anyone familliar with Mr Scott?

Any tips to make the interview go smooth? Thanks guys

Update 11-18

I just got a call from Mr Scott, he said something came up next week and wants to d it tommorow morning at 8am.
So wish me luck

UPDATE 11-19-10:
My interview is over and it went GREAT. Mr Scott was very polite and easy to talk to, it lasted aprox 50 mins and he was impressed with my knowledge of the rules and regs (thanks to my exhaustive research lol).
He said I should have my FFL in hand by the first of the year.
WOOOOO O happy day!!

Figure out who will handle your bookkeeping if you haven't done so already.

Always have a relationship with an attorney and a CPA. You don't want to be looking for either when the SHTF. Talk to friends who are local business owners or network through your local chamber of commerce.

I live in a very rural location (not it city limits). When I went to the probate office to make sure I could sell guns from my home they said no problem and issued me a business license to do so.

The license covers all long guns, pistols and revolvers, also ammo ect...

This should have me covered on the zoneing correct?

Check into insurance. Homeowner's may not cover business losses (fire/theft).

Have some business cards made up.
Figure out which accounting package, if any, you want to use (we use Quickbooks).
Find local forums or web sites that will let you advertise your business for little or no cost - some of my local newspapers permit it.

The absolutely best thing you can do while waiting, without a doubt, I'm not kidding, seriously now, is read everything on the ATF website.
Twice., then repeat.

I started with the FAQ's and then followed the links to old FFL newsletters, "Open" letters, and NFA stuff. The FAQ's all have cites to the actual Federal law- so read the law as well.

Once you get your license:
Bound book- Brownells sells a good one.
Order 4473's, Multiple sale forms, Youth Handgun brochures, etc from the ATF.
Register with the FBI NICS.
Scan your FFL. It cost $$$ to fax, email cost me nothing extra.
Register with California DOJ so you can ship to California. It's free, quick, easy and takes little effort on any gun shipment.
Rubber stamp with your FFL# and a second with your Name & Address. These will save you a considerable amount of handwriting that info on each 4473.

Get something in writing from your city/township. I got approval from my city first thing. I made the mistake of not including the approval letter and that was the first thing the inspector from the BATFE asked about. It held up the process for about three weeks for me, if I would have sent that it I would have gotten my inspection before the ATF inspector went on vaction. The ATF inspector is suppost to be calling me tomorrow to set up for later this week from what I was told a few weeks ago.

It is not an agent that comes to see you. He is an Industry Operations Investigator. He will just ask you your business plans and go over some regulations with you. Don't sweat it.
