filling out the paper work questions
home based ffl business. 1. hours of operation, does the business need to be open every weekday? 2. I have a C&R do I need to list that in question 14? 3. since it is home based should I list my wife as a "responsible person" or don't I need to bother? 4. can she accept packages from Fed-ex and ups or not?
Hours of operation up to you. We did 10a-6p Saturday and Thurs 6p-9p only. Went through fine. I had a C&R and noted it yes. I didn't list wife on my original 01 FFL as responsible but she is part of the LLC we have formed for our current FFL. ANY adult can accept and sign for your packages.

and they were helpful and decent to work with?
The business hours are the times that the ATF would come by for compliance inspections. You don't have to be open every day.

I had specified weekend only hours, and my application got pushed back for that, requiring something M-F 9-5.

What really? What exactly did they say in the letter they wrote to you saying that?

ATF doesn't like working weekends
The "business hours" you put on your application are the only hours they can visit for your compliance inspection.

The IOI demanded that I change it during the interview.

For the guys applying in the future, FYI there is no regulation or law which requires you to have hours of operation at the times that ATF may want you to have them. If you are only going to be open on the weekends, that is allowed and is your perogative. Its your business. If an IOI "demands" that you put weekday hours even of you are not going to have weekday hours, they are "demanding" that you falsify your F 7. Ask to speak to their supervisor.
I put down morning hours or by appointment M-F because I work nights at my other job.
Over the years I've flexed the listed hours on my renewal applications based on the shift I work at my full time job and they've never questioned it.
