The trigger is good, a bit heavier than my AR which has a nice trigger (but not a match trigger, no timney or giesselle) but smooth and has a good break.
Manticore arms makes a grip for the 556 now that is really good, it doesn't have the storage of the Magpul grip, but it feels really good.
I think its going to be fine for LH shooting, considering most of these rifles throw brass 8 to 10 feet to the shooters 2 o-clock.
I'm correct handed too and have had zero issues with any of the 556's I have shot. The trigger is decent. It has a different feel than an AR platform, but I dig it. I own an 556 patrol and love it.
Triggers are good and don't have any creepp like a few AR's I've had. Most AR's made today have better triggers and less creep than older models. The 556 has a longer pull but smoother IMHO.
