Picked up a 551-A1 yesterday...

Sold my first gen Sig556 to a friend because it was never what I really wanted. Bought all kinds of parts to make it into something closer to the original and finally just gave up. When the 551-A1 came out I looked at it real hard before deciding to take the chance. So far I am pleased with the results. Added Swiss hand guards and bayonet lug. Need to get a few more mags.
One thing I noticed in the manual is that it was supposed to come with a 20rd and a 30rd mag. Mine came with two 30rd's. This common or did someone switch?

I'm thinking hard about getting one myself. Though, I'm also thinking about going w/the 556 pistol for an end result 552.

This is common. I believe the first few shipped with 1x 20rd and 1x 30rd, but all I have heard about recently included 2x 30rd instead.

When I got mine, the owner had to give me 2 20rd mags from his 551-2 SP, they were short of them from the supplier (live in MD and can't buy anything over 20rds in state) . Also I read someone ordered some directly from SIG and they were short of the 20rds. I ended up getting 4 30rd mags and shipping them to a buddy in VA for pickup.

Mine came with one 30rd. I called SIG and they said that is all that I was supposed to get. : (

If the shop you bought it from had Sig 551 magazines for sale, I'll bet that they were previously the second mag in the 551A1 boxes. This used to be a common practice at the sketchier gun shops.

Page 29 of the Sig 551-A1 owner manual states "The rifle ships with (1) 20 round Swiss transparent magazine and (1) 30 round Swiss magazine." You should get two mags. BTW, there is a coupon for 20% off accessories (including magazines) in the box. I just picked up six more mags at @ $33 each.

Hey how did you order the mags? I can't find any on the website. I was going to do the same thing.

Where did you get the swiss handgaurds? I was going to get a set at co gunsales but the 551 don't seem to be there.

That's good to know. I picked mine up at the Sig Pro shop a couple months ago and it came with two 30's. I also bought another six 30's to go with them. I'm gonna have to give them a call about some 20's.
