Rossi Mare's Leg
On the Gunblast.com coverage of the 2010 NRA Annual Meeting they posted a picture of the new Rossi "Ranch Hand", which is a mare's leg type pistol with an alleged msrp of $536. Pretty inexpensive compared to other pistols of this type, though the barrel looks a little long. Hard to tell with that model holding it. Who knows how tiny she is. Also, the loop is incredibly huge. Still, it's a budget mare's leg that may keep me from crazily SBR-ing a 336.
ETA: Looks like 12" barrel, 24" OAL, chambered in .357 mag, .44 mag, and .45 Colt.
The poor rep practically had to pry it back out of my hands... I
WILL have one, ASAP.
I could never get on board for one of the mare's legs, but at that price I am certainly going to get one.
Does Zoe come with it?

Forget Zoe, the one that should be displaying the mare's leg is Steve McQueen.

It's amazing to me that the one used by Steve McQueen in Wanted: Dead or Alive has an even bigger loop than is en vogue today. That thing is big enough to allow you to spin cock it with your boot!
These are legally pistols ?
I am having a hard time visualizing how one would hold and shoot it ?
Who is importing these Rossies ?
LSI was importing the Pumas , but no longer ?
God bless
wyr

I could do without for $1200 ––- for 500 bucks and change though? now i can't wait –––– make mine .45 Colt please

I want the .45 version also. A quick search online showed a couple vendors selling these at $399 (!) but were out of stock.
Amazing how (essentially) the same gun can go from $400 to $1200 or more...
Tag for more info when they are in stock

That's because they aren't shipping yet.
Rep at the NRA Exhibits said mid- to late-summer, so I'll count myself fortunate if I can actually get my hands on one before the end of the year.

Local gunshop has one of the older JB Custom's Mare's leg built on a new Rossi receiver in .44mag and they're asking $1200.

That's because a hard-core operator carried it in Ass-Crakistan...didn't you read the tag.

I bought the DVD set of that series a few months back. Good stuff.
Yeah, I got a ridiculous deal on the complete series of Wanted: Dead or Alive at Best Buy. I like how he's always whacking guys with the gun. As in, using it as a bludgeon. Amuses me greatly.

I'll be having one of these in .357 mag. I WILL be putting a regular lever on it tho.
Rob
tag for interest

Or re-contouring the original to a slightly smaller loop.

Yes, My wife want's one in .357 mag. She even concidered shopping her Winchester but I talked her out of it since it would need a tax stamp.
New manufactured models are done on virgin receivers as pistols and do not need a stamp.
Payne, is this the "tiny model" you were referring to? yeesh!

I wonder how one of those would handle with an actual pistol grip & a lever to match?
I don't see how this pass as a pistol even with the short stock at that length. AR15 pistols get by with the buffer extension because it is necessary for operation, but this rossi has no functional parts that I know of past the lever. It would be rough, but it could be fired from the shoulder. Am I missing something here?

Welcome to the wild wacky world of the ATF....if they say it's a pistol, it's a pistol.
Until it isn't.

Good for Rossi at this point. This will be an awesome pack gun and you won't need a $200 SBR stamp.
Whats the deal in the OP with the 2 different sized lever loops? I would want the smaller version of the inlarged loop.
Anybody still making the leather holsters for these?
Sow how much is the SBR tax?
Put a rifle stock on that thing and NOW WE'RE TALKING!!!

Fill out a form & cough up $200.

Try these:

I'm guessing if these guns sell well, there'll be more holster choices available. Right now, the existing mare's leg market must be small.
How do you even shoot one of these effectively? Or is it simply a "cool factor" gun?

It is cool - and here's how you shoot it (or the expensive version of it):

edit - hmm, my link doesn't work when i click on it. Just try Copy & Paste.

yup, that is my plan as well. I have wanted to make one of those SBR lever guns for a long time. Alot of people actually did compact 12 inch conversions in the old west, so at least we know its not sacrilege doing it to a lever gun.
The cool thing about the rossi, is suddenly doing an SBR is very cost effective.

DONE!!!
In .45 Colt of course!!!
And with a regular lever.
Just an FYI... made a few calls, did some google-fu and discovered these aren't expected to be shipping until Nov - Dec time frame.
That said... I'll be getting at least one. .45lc.
Still the .44mag just sounds like a good idea as well.

I'm definitely getting one, probably in 357. It'd be the cheapest ammo using 38 Sp.
I've always wanted a Mare's leg, but could never see paying the $1,200 price tag. $400 is a whole new ballgame.
I want one in .44 Mag......

Something tells me that I'm gonna like the pics.

Nice that will give me time to pickup a S&W 21-4 .44 special first which would go nicely with a .44 mag SBR rossi.

Interesting. The company rep at the NRA show told me July-August, but I was skeptical about that even then.
Still, I will have one (in .44) when they come out...

I asked the same question and never got an answer ?
Money is kind of tight and a " cool factor " gun is not in the budget .
God bless

I thought I had already posted this here, but I just looked and it was on another site.
Here is how I answered that question there:
As you may have ascertained from my OP, for me it's primarily the coolness factor (and strictly related to
Wanted Dead or Alive –– I haven't seen
ZombieLand yet and didn't even know one was in there).
But I've owned plenty of weapons over the years that had no draw, use, or justification beyond "I want it!" and I'm okay with that. And, heck, I've wanted
this one for almost 40 years now...
The harsh reality is that there isn't much this will do that a revolver in the same caliber couldn't, and there would be several distinct advatages to the revolver to boot. But I have
plenty of revolvers and I've
never had a mare's leg.
That's
my rationale. One size does not fit all, so YMMV.
The gun is on the cover of this month's American Rifleman. Looks like an awesome toy and I never even saw the Steve McQueen series.
I would like it in .357 Magnum.
Are they gonna make these in stainless?
I want one bad too. Leaning towards .357.
Are ya really gonna need the stamp ?

Ain't looking to do that.

Only if they "need" to put a full length stock on it.
Stainless would be sweet

Nah, it's a "pistol". Somehow.
I want one in .357/.38

It was manufactured as a pistol. Therefore it isn't an SBR. Not an NFA weapon. Just a pistol like a 1911, Glock, etc.
