The wife came home with an early Anniversary gift. A new in Henry .22 lever action.

It the plain Jane model but I have forgotten how much fun it is to shoot. I ran about 20 rounds of .22 LR Sub Sonics and Shorts thru it, WOW it's action is butter smooth.

Just wanted to brag and see if any one knows which ammo seems to be more accurate in their's?

Thanks Mikey394

Mine like all the bulk pack products about the same, however, I haven't ventured into the the subsonic world. Your H001 will serve you well but be aware, you can go a little crazy customizing it just like here on ARFCOM.

My H001 started out stock a couple of years ago but almost immediately I decided that it needed the following 'additions':

Swapped out the Std buttstock for a Youth buttstock,
Stripped receiver and barrel band for 'in the white' look,
Steel barrel band and front sight,
Scratch-X shine on the wood,
D&T for Williams peep sight.

Now this puppy is gtg at over 150yds and after a few thousand rds it's still a ton of fun to shoot.

You might wonder why I replaced the buttstock with a youth version. I noticed that the Henry's buttstock looked out of place when I first got it and that I had to stretch my neck a bit to get in tight on the rear Williams sight, something I didn't do with my Rossi clone Win '92 carbine. As you can plainly see, Henry's standard buttstock has actually got a longer pull than the '92's long rifle buttstock while the Henry's Youth version buttstock is the length of a '92 carbine's. As the H001 is a carbine, it's standard buttstock is really too long as you can see below.

Standard buttstock (note that's it's actually longer than either of my '92s).

Youth buttstock (it's now the length of the '92 carbine's and now it looks and feels more balanced and it also shoulders much better).

Comparing both stocks side by side you can see that the youth version actually has better proportions than the standard version.

Don't get me wrong, the standard H001 is a great little shooter. It's just that you can make it even better with a little effort.

What did you use to strip the reciever and barrel band love that look?

Paint remover. Both the receiver cover and band are painted. Remove the pieces, rough up the paint a bit, and then apply the remover. In 10 minutes the paint should just wash off. Then you can either paint the parts with silver or brass paint and then add a mat clear topcoat to protect it from solvents or just add the mat clear topcoat. Check out the Henry section at Rimfirecentral.com.
