Got Some Lever Action Questions - New Marlin 336CS Owner

I got a 336CS in a trade. It has a Leupold VX1 2-7x? on it. I didn't know if that was good to keep on a STHF/ brush setup or to go with some peep sights like Williams or XS. It is a 150 yard rifle and its gonna ride in my trunk when I want it to. I have an AK47 for really bad days and a .22 for small game.

It has sights on it so would I be better of with keeping the scope or selling it to get iron sights.

Next, I am looking at ammo. I have quite a bit of 150 grain and was wondering if one brand or another of 150gr rounds are better than another. There is almost no price difference with the 160gr FTX hornady bullets from what I have seen and I would end up using about 8-10% less powder. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Yes my gun has microgroove rifling and I am thinking of adding a wild west guns trigger.

I may be all wet, but if it is going to get beaten around in a truck, I think I would ditch that particular scope.

Leupolds are good scopes, but I'm not sure how a variable will hold up.

They do, after all, have moving assemblies in the optics to change power.

If I wanted to keep a scope on it, I'd swap for a low magnification fixed power model.

I put an XS full rail with ghost ring sights on mine because I have a set otA.R.M.S. 22L rings so I can pop my scope off real quick it I need to. Also mine gets fantastic accuracy out of Federal Fusion ammo. Mine is a little older but it's still a CS model with smooth wood which I just traded off and replaced with polymer furniture. Also added a Triad Tactical stock pack to it for carrying plenty of extra ammo. Makes a great grab and go or truck gun for me. I replaced the mag tube spring with a Wolf X-tra power spring and a stainless steel follower then added a spring kit which lightened up the trigger even more and the lever latch spring makes it unlock much faster and easier to cut down on cycling time. Those ghost ring sights are awsome and very fast to get on target.. Hard to beat a Marlin for that kinda thing...Best of luck with yours...

EDIT: sorry, I forgot something. I replaced the stock ejector with the one peice from Wild West so there is no worries about possible seperation of the factory unit. It also is not quite as long so it rolls the brass out about a foot and a half so they all land right in a neet pile I don't have to chase all over the place.

Brownells is where I get the spring kits. I used a Wolf spring kit in mine...

If I was only shooting at 150 yards, I'd just use the stock sights.

I don't care for the stock sights. I'll ditch the scope for sure and I bought a spring kit. I don't think I need a Wild West trigger now.

Throw a basic Williams peep on it and you will have a good fast rig that will shoot some distance too
