I'm wanting to turn some nasty, pointy, upholstery eating, DNA sampling flash hider from hell, but I'm not sure what still to pick. 4130 would be the obvious choice, but I don't have a mill and rotary table handy to turn some round bar into hex bar, so I have to stick with what I can get in hex, which is 303, 304, 316, 321, 347, and 15-5 stainless, 12L14, and 360 brass. There's some aluminum, too, but I'd like it to last more than a mag without eroding to the point it falls off. 360 brass might look interesting, but will it handle the pressure and erosion? Same with 12L14 and 303. I really don't want to mess with 304 or 316, and I've never touched any of the other stainless alloys. Anyone have any suggestions?
I just use a cheap used Chinese spin jig I bought off fleabay. I'd love a real rotary table, but that is going to wait a long time....
I goof around with 12L14 for stuff like this. I have not fired my suppressors for longevity, but it is good enough for making something to see what happens. This is just something fun to make if I have a couple unaccounted for hours or so in the garage.
Ah, you don't have a mill. I imagine you could bolt a spin jig to an angle plate on your cross slide. That is what I did a couple time until I got a mill.
12L14 or CF1144 stressproof will work fine. We use 12L 14 for Muzzle brakes on 50's with no problem.

Damn fine work, just not "please don't poke me with that" enough for me ;)
And thanks both of you. 12L14 it is. I was getting concerned someone would say inconel or titanium and I'd have to admit myself to the nearest asylum.
