What products are you guys using to mount scopes? I need a gun vise (thinknig the tipton one) and a scope mounting kit as well as bore sighter.. What do you all recommend/use?
I use a gun vise. I have a Tipton and a wooden one.
I have a really cheesy plastic gizmo you are supposed to attach with a rubberband. It has black and white lines on it so you can index the scope crosshairs to it.
I don't think it works very well. I just aim out the door and find a nice horizontal line somewhere "out there"...works better for me.
ETA: I use the Wheeler kit for lapping/mounting. Great kit.
I have actual calibrated torque wrenches from CDI.
I use a standard Tipton vise.
This tool from Brownells; Found here
And a Kokopelli Accurizing kit.
Almost forgot, I use a boresighter from LaserLyte.
I've got quite a bit of money tied-up in the above tools, but I'm a perfectionist. I've used everthing know to man and sold it because I was unhappy with it. The above tools are what I've kept because the do what they are supposed to do.
Everything you need to know about setting up a scope can be found in this thread from a couple of years ago on another forum. You have to go to page 3 for the info but the rest is great reading just for the history.
