Installation of Trijicon night sights in 1911 slide

Posted in the 1911 forum as well...Anyone here have experience with installing the rear (dovetail) Trijicon sights in a 1911 slide? The instructions state the metal as "malleable", but don't go into too much detail on actually installing them. My question: does the rear sight need to be slightly filed for installation into the dovetail or is the metal soft enough that I just need to "drive it in"?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, nevermind. I thought possibly someone around here may have done this a time or two with the Trijicon sights.

I ended up just putting the sight in the dovetail with a small amount of lube, and drove it in. The metal Trijicon uses in the sight base for the rear 1911 dovetail is malleable, and goes in without any filing at all. Went in slick, and is as snug as any sight I have done before. No filing, no fitting. Nice.

i don't install rear sights that tight as i want to keep them easily adjustable for windage. some people work on the cheapest part and file the sight, i file the dovetail as it easier to refinish. if sight doesn't have a setscrew, i drill and tap and install one so owner can adjust it if needed.
