GUN: Marlin 880 SQ Bull barrel

Looking for input from GUNSMITHS, I already know how it looks, just want to know why its acceptable, and if it is indeed correct.

Big cluter F going on right now. I took it back, and got it back the same way. Only person who says its done right was the guy I payed...

Turns out he contracted a guy to do it, after telling me he did it?

This gunsmith I randomly took it to, said it wasnt done right, then it turns out HE DID IT....

So I am very confused, I dont know whats going on or what to think....

It used to have factory crowning, and shot TIGHT groups at 50 yards, now wont shoot for shit at 15 feet.... Have not tested it since the first time I got it back.

All fucked up. The shoulders look like shit and they didn't chuck it right i.e. the marks on the barrel. It also has a odd ass looking crown. It is a bad sign when they are to lazy to remove the dykem from the finished product.

I thread barrels here , that barrel needs to be cut back and everything on it needs to be redone. The crown looks like it was cut with a countersink (hell it looks like it was chattering in the barrel ) and it will not shoot accurately like that, the threads look like shit and the torque shoulder is terrible.
Start anew with a competent gunsmith

This work came from some schmuck, WARN YOUR FRIENDS!

07 here, i have threaded my share of barrels, and that is horrible.

The shoulder should be clean, not with a rough surface. there should be no burr on the outside of the shoulder either, it should have a tiny chamfer - certainly no sharp edges.

The thread appears to be more rounded than it should be. Hard to tell for sure without the part in front of me, but it looks like the outside diameter of the threads is too small.

The crown ? WTF ? It was drilled with a countersink, and I would bet that it was threaded with a live center mounted in the tailstock. No need for this, it is horribly detrimental. Should be just chucked, not on a tailstock. Or possibly threaded on a tailstock, then faced and crowned, but even that is a little clowny. Cant tell from the pics but it even appears that there was chatter on the countersink ? How many grooves is the rifling ? Cuz it looks like 12 groove in the pic.

Is this a particularly fat barrel that he couldnt fit in the spindle of his lathe ? or was he tuning this on a small lathe with the breech end in the chuck ? That would explain the chatter and crappy c'sk.

I'd suggest cutting off that thread end, and redoing it properly, assuming the barrel is about 17" now you should be okay.

That's screwed up and you are owed a refund.

Unfortunately you'll have to track down a real gunsmith. Or maybe a blind badger missing some toes that only has a die plate for cutting a thread.

Oh, dear. This is a perfect example why I don't take anything to gunsmiths. You probably paid $75-100 for this work, too.

They say, "send it to ADCO," to get competent lathework 101 performed on your rifle.

They still haven't fixed this for you it's been a few months since you started the first thread about this. There are a bunch of guys around WA that can do that right for you and if all else fails send it to ADCO or Tornado Tech to have it done right.

Looks more like a Whitworth thread than UNEF.
