hey guys, have my rifle coming in, and in the slow aquisition of parts i know i will need a one piece rail to mount on this gun. its a remington 700 AAC-SD , 308, 20 inch barrel, the longest ranges ive seen personally are 500 yards at my buddys place (where a certain youtube fame person also films occasionally), and then also a 600yrd range thats a NRA club. so i know thats going to put me at a 20moa base. ive seen prices all over for rails from, $30 all the way up to $200. what would you recommmend for my needs. and ill be an occasional shooter and non competition.

If you are on a budget, then get the Weaver Tactical Picatinny rail.

If you can afford a little extra, then get the Seekins Precision part.

I was wondering the same thing because I am putting together a long range shooter myself.

Is this a case where you get what you pay for or are you just paying for a name brand & the marketing hype.

Basically - Is one rail really better that the other? Can the higher price really be justified.

Can't say enough good things about Seekins Precision. Check them out. A set of rings and base should run a bit over $200.

With the Seekins Precision part you are paying extra for the finishing and attention to detail. When you hold both in your hand, it's easy to see.

You have to decide if the money is well spent or not. I feel that it is. When I am not specifically trying to stay in an artificial budget, then I go with Seekins.

I also prefer to support them because Glenn is an innovator. He is constantly trying to bring new and better products to market. This keeps our sport/hobby/occupation growing.

Exactly. Just look at his new 2012 catalog with the new AR line of parts and rifles he is coming out with. Not to mention his DBMs, rings, bases etc.

Best value is definitely the weaver. I have 2 and FOR ME I feel no need to upgrade. Thats not to say that seekins and others are not a better product, but Id much rather spend the $ on powder and bullets.

Weaver if money is tight so you can invest more in glass. Seekins if you can swing. I've had both and wouldn't hesitate to use either. Seekins is definitely nicer finished and machined with more attention to minor details. Weaver is in spec but its way too long on a short action and should be trimmed, its also fairly sharp...

Other options besides these two that can be recommended?

I'm in the same position. Haven't ordered them yet but, I think I'm going with the TPS steel base and a set of there steel rings. They seem to get good reviews and everything together should be about $130.

I was looking at these as well but probably alum rings. Are these worth the extra money over the weaver is my question.
