Why adjust turrets for elev/wind when you can use holdovers with a horus reticle?

Pros vs Cons?

For me,

Pros: No messing with turrets, with proper practice/training you'll probably be faster than someone using turrets.

Cons: Dependent on focal plane, cluttered and "busy" reticle (I could see someone getting lost with it if they're in a hurry), not looking through the center of the optics to the target, loss of fine adjustment (1/4 or 1/8 MOA clicks are probably more accurate than you), Each shot is like plotting a point on a graph, you can do the same thing with mil/MOA scale reticles that only mark the main cross.

And being un-familiar with the various Horus reticles, I would say I'm cautious of how much elevation range I can get out of it. I know I have 100+ MOA of clicks and 20-30 MOA of reticle in my NP-R1 scopes. If you max out the reticle, then start playing with clicks with that reticle pattern... woowee headache.

I dial for distance if its known and I will be staying there for multiple shots. I never dial for wind.

For me and the type of shooting I do the Horus reticle is way to busy. Typically I dial elevation and hold wind. My windage knob gets zeroed and covered then I never touch it.

Precision vs. speed.

I don't like most of the Horus reticles, but I do use a reticle with hold points.

I dial elevation when I have the time. I hold when I don't.

I almost always hold for wind.

I went from a Mil hash reticles to Horus reticles. I can't say that the Horus's are too busy for me, and further, it has helped speed up my shooting a bit. The X-mas tree reticle, as most have dubbed it, makes it easier for me to track my shots. Also, because the reticle sits FFP, when dialing it down, the reticle acts more like fine crosshairs rather than a reticle that may impede your view. At max magnification the reticle becomes larger but is still very management if not more helpful, at least to me. I own one scope with a Horus, HDMR and I just picked up the CQBSS with an H27D. I just recently sold my NF 2.5-10 for that reason. The only cluttered reticle that I don't like out of the Horus line is the H37. That particular reticle is a raised reticle for extended ranges with their x-mas tree setup. I have found that reticle quite annyoing. and does impede my view, especially at maximum magnification.
