How much should a competition rifle run?
Thinking of a 6mmBR or 6xc.
I was thinking 6k with scope(night force BR)
I'm in the $6-7000 range right now. Take a look at the 260 cartridge.
Well, the sky is the limit, I suppose. There's a case of McMillan rifles at the Chandler Cabela's store. They're pretty dear.
I have two long range rifles, a Savage Long Range Precision in .260 Remington and a 5R Remington in .308. Each of them has a Nightforce NXS scope on top. I have less than 3K in each set-up.
I think you can get a pretty good outfit for 3K$. 4K$ if you want a Schmidt and Bender scope.
I seem to keep up with the big boys with my two "rack" guns. They (the big boys) shoot better than me, but I think the equipment is pretty close in quality.
Note: Nightforce Benchrest scopes have limited range of adjustment for elevation and windage compared to NXS type.
What type of competition?

Its very hard to have a do all BR gun, but if you want some good advice here it goes....
Pick a action like a nesika, or a stolle
have 2 barrels in 6br one fast twist and one slow
Get a 12-42x Nightforce BR scope
A stock is going to be hard (to make weight) because the bigger flatter stocks for long range BR are heavy if your planning on shooting 100-300 you have to be in the 10.5 to no more than 13.5 lbs...
Most Br shooters have a light Varmit rifle for 100-300
Then a 13.5 to 18.0 lb rifle for 300-600
and a 18.0+ rifle for 600-1000
260 rem, 6.5x44, 6.5-284, 300 wsm, 7mm wsm, 6.5 wsm, 260 ack are all 400 yard performers
6br and 6xc step into the long game quite a bit to
100-300 yards 6ppc rules the roost with a 6 br on its heels.
I know some guys that have switch barrel guns and have removeable weights and stocks that try and do both shooting style but they seem to have a hrad time more often that not!!!
That's some good advice. When looking at a stock though check out Manners. They have stocks built for competitions like you are looking to get into that are also light weight. Check them out here
