 Savage .338 Lapua?

Local gunshop has the Savage .338 Lapua with HS precision stock for $1280. They also had a long range hunter in .338 for about $200 less, but they sold the one they had in stock. I'm seriously considering a Savage in this caliber - my 10FP tactical in .308 has proven to be a tack driver, the .338 would make a nice target / hunting gun when the weather is right in Colorado so I could sit in one place for extended hours.
Anyone on the board have a Savage in .338 Lapua? I realize that even reloading the rounds will be expensive, but this is a gun I really think I'll buy in the next 60 days or so.

I looked into the Savage as well as the Remington XCR. The Savage is a great buy with the only negative I have heard is they are finicky on brass.. They seem to be partial to Lapua brass rather than Hornady or Bertram. Not really a problem but you do not want to go out shooting and find that you have to push the spent cases out with a cleanout rod. I wound up getting a Sako TRG42 and although it seems to like just about any thing I run through it I prefer the HSM loaded in Lapua brass.. It is 3.65 a round from them..

If I had a place to shoot out past 400 yards I would own a .338 Lapua.

If I were to buy a .338 Lapua it would be either a Savage or a TRG 42. I could get the Savage, rings and glass for the same price as the base TRG with just the rail and bipod.

Check over at Sniper's Hide. they have several threads on the savage.

A buddy of mine has the Savage 338 with the HS stock and it likes any brass out there, including the Hornady.

Good to hear.

Some guys were running the then 'new' BA-110s and having issues with Hornady brass sticking in their chambers, but not with Lapua, so it 'was' an issue for a few of the early adopters. Don't know how things were resolved and why it was only Hornady brass.

I'd save up some pennies and go with the BA-110, as it's purpose built for the 338LM and while not a 'sexy looking' rifle, it offers a lot of bang for one's buck.

I had the chance to shoot one last fall. I was impressed. It was box stock, shooting factory loads. Hit where I aimed, but I'm sure reloads would shrink the groups further.

.338 LM is a LOUD load.
