 NEW Scout Rifle Polymer Mags

A couple weeks back Ruger sent me their new polymer Scout Rifle magazines for testing.

Available with 3, 5 or 10 round capacity. They are constructed of durable glass-filled nylon.

––––-
Magazine weight w/dust cover:

3 rd: 2.3 oz.
5 rd: 2.7 oz.
10 rd: 3.5 oz.

––––-

A snap-on dust cover is included which helps keep the magazine internals clean and allows long-term storage of the magazine while loaded.

Disassembly was quick and painless.

Field-tested:

First thing done was to function test each magazine; I cycled each full magazine twice. Then me and a cohort gathered up some spare .308 ammo and headed to the range.

Loaded 10 rd mag. seated

This was not an accuracy test, it was a function test. Through 70 rounds fired all three mags fed without a problem. I have to mention though - the 3 and 5 rounders took some serious muscle to lock-in. They seem to be designed and built well.

Nice review.

I have been thinking about picking up one of these Scout rifles. They look nice.

Nice mags. Thanks for the review.

Would it be possible for you to take pics of the rifle with the 3 and 5 round mags inserted in the rifle. On Ruger's website it says the 3 rounder sits almost flush on the bottom.

I'm considering the Scout rifle for another hog/deer gun and usually carry my rifles where the mag sits when walking through the woods.

Thank You for the review...I look forward to picking up some 10-rounders.....I really like the metal mags, and find them to be artfully made....the polymers are for all purposes...Ugly as sin...but if they work and are durable....I will get three to try out.

Anyone know if or when new rifles will be shipped with the polymer mags? I just put in an order for a GSR today.

I would rather it ship with the metal and buy the polymer mags after as they are much cheaper. But who knows

I hope they still ship with the original mags, and if not then the price for the gun should be lower, or several mags should be included..

Anyhow, the existence of these lower cost mags makes this rifle look even more attractive.

I like them all but the little 3 rounder mag is really nice for bench work and you can keep it loaded with dust cover attached in a pocket for back-up.
