Was shooting one of my M1's yesterday. I haven't shot it for a few years and seemed to remember having a problem with it last time. I remember now. Erratic ejection. Brass going in different directions and sometimes at my head. Weak clip ejection. My other M1 makes them fly. This one just kinda weakly flings out. I know it has a new recoil spring, but I'm not sure if I put any other new springs in. I know when I went to put a new clip latch spring in, I couldn't get the clip latch pin out. It must be staked in. What needs replaced and how can I get that latch pin out if I need to replace that spring?
Erratic ejection would be associated with the ejector, extractor and their springs. I'd disassemble the bolt, look for odd wear and at least replace the springs there.
If you wanted to replace a spring for weak clip ejection, it would be the clip eject spring in the trigger group and not the clip latch spring. That one helps to keep the clip in place.

Thanks. At least I don't have to hammer out that pin. I have a bag with all those springs in it, but I can't remember if they are old ones from my other M1 or if I never put them in this one. Guess I'll pull the springs and see which ones are stronger and put the strongest in for now. Thanks

That's a good point. It wasn't tight when I tore it down to clean it.
My #1 suggestion for all M1 Owners is to get an enhanced spring kit from Orion 7 and replace "every" spring which includes the clip ejector spring.

Make sure it is tight and shoot it again.
