What kind of a scope to get for my M1A
I have a match grade M1A and have a nice (but heavy) IOR scope on it.
I also have a standard M1A that I would like to keep somewhat lightweight.
I am at the point in life where I need optics in order to hit the side of a barn.
What kind of lightweight scopes with a .308 BDC are available?
I was thinking of a Trijicon TA-01B. However, the ACOG mount for a M1A cost almost $500 dollars and I am afraid a regular mount would make it too high.
What lightwight scopes are you using? I am not interested in red dot.
I am in the same boat as you at the moment. I've been looking for a scope for my MCS for a long while and I've pretty much made my mind up on a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 with the Rapid Z reticle.. The reticle looks really nice. Sorry i dont have any personal experience with them, but I've read a lot that the Conquest line gives some really good bang for your buck. Maybe someone with experience with these scopes can chyme in.
leupold fixed 10x. Rock solid on my SA mount.
It has bullet drop knobs that are custom from the factory. tell them what load, speed, or whatever.
Ive been meaning to get one with simple click count #s (not distance). Not an option for some reason.
I was thinking something like a Leupold 6x36. It is 10 oz and you can get it with a ballistic type duplex.

I have the 3.5-10x40 with Rapid Z. It's only ok. The glass is pretty decent but it's really not all that great in marginal light. The moderately detailed crosshair detail is very hard to see in that magic dusk time on a rainy/cloudy day when deer come out. Basically you loose all the bullet drop comp hashmarks when you can't see them. I had to hold it up to the the lighter sky to pick out the right hash mark. I think the straight up mildot would work better for me as the dots are easier to see. Just my experience with mine.

Which 10X? You you talking about the Mark 4 or the hunter's model?
Have you looked at the Valdada Spartan 2-12? It might not fit your weight requirements, but it is a great piece of glass.

There are lots of good scopes out there but they are heavy. I already have a couple of heavy quality scopes that would work nicely. For instance, I have an IOR 6 x 42 with a MP-8 reticle but the thing weights 21 ounces. Very heavy. A great scope but I am looking for a good lightweight scope for this build.
I put a Leupold mark4 2.5x8x36 m2 turrets on mine.Very nice piece of glass!Bright and clear! I love it!
I would get this one...it is plenty for M14 work and give you some low light capability without batteries.
1-4x24 AccuPoint
I'll chime in. I slapped a fixed 10x super sniper on my EBR until I settle on something with variable mag. I'm strongly considering a low power variable like a 1-4 or 1-6. That'll be plenty for my purposes (within 600 yards).

Actually the 3-9 x 40 Accupoint with the mil dot reticle may not be a bad choice at 12.8 ounces.

I got an IOR "Spartan" 2-12 expressly for my M1A NM. It's as clear as a Nightforce; actually did direct comparison, and has a better reticle. It is not light weight in the least, but I do not think there is a better scope for the M1A made, YMMV.
