Never mounted either, but have an Amega laying around and am tempted to try it. Is there a major plus or minor of one of these over the other?
Based on my M1A experience, Ultimak is the way to go. The Amega unit was nicely machined and finished, but sat higher, making cheek weld an issue without a stock riser.
I don't know if the Garand units copare the same in that area, so you'll want to take a look.
If you've got it, use it––and see if you like it. It doesn't take a lot of time to install.
I've got the Amega Ranges mount, and it is true that it is high enough above the normal sight-line that you have to develop a repeatable "chin weld" to shoot it consistently (without adding a pad to the buttstock).
But that's all just practice.
There's no comparison. The Ultimak is so much better than the Amega Ranges. I had the Amega Ranges until the Ultimak came out and the difference is so much better I gave away my Amega Ranges.

Just out of curiosity末exactly what is it about the Ultimak that makes it so good that it renders the Amega Ranges absolutely worthless?
Cuz quite frankly末that makes no fucking sense to me. Seriously. I'd like an intelligible answer.

#1 - Take a chill pill. I didn't say the Amega Ranges was worthless. Just the Ultimak is a hellava lot better.
The Ultimak has the following...
1) Lower profile - can co-witness with a red dot
2) Much more solid attachment - 4 bolts & lug vs. the multiple little screws and sheet metal liner for the bottom of the barrel
3) Much better fit.
4) The Ultimak is a more professional design.
Your bonus answear is: No need for the funky side rails like on the Amega Ranges but if you like them then good for you.
Like I said, I had the Amega Ranges first so I know what both are like, unlike you apparently.
BTW -I also have the Ultimak scout rail on a couple M1As and that version is great also.
If you're happy as a clam with your Amega Ranges that's fine. It's just not the best.
Comprede?

I'll be frank. There is a sameness to your every posts on the issue (and I've seen them all over the web) and there is never any nuance to your observations or opinions.
Because of that, I find myself wondering if you have an undisclosed financial interest in the Ultimak company.
ETA: Actually I can phrase that better. How about末Your replies are always written AS IF they were written by someone with a financial stake in the company. And of the four points you cited––I'd say only the first point holds water.
