Can someone recommend castle nut pliers for an M1A that aren't garbage? I learned the hard way with the Brownells pliers.

Check on Gun Broker and Auction Arms for BlackH2 / AR Specialties. He makes a very heavy duty one.

I destroyed my first set from Brownells and bought a couple of spares. I applied some break free to the castle nut and some grim and crap came out. Also, OP, make sure you're turning the right way.

Yeah, I destroyed two pairs from Brownells. :)

I have it soaking in PB Blaster right now to see if that helps.

I found the gentleman on Gun Broker who sells the heavy duty ones and email him. He doesn't have any in stock at the moment, but he expects them back in stock by next week, at which time I'll order a pair.

I must say, though, I'm extremely disappointed in the Brownells pliers. I've used a lot of their tools and found them to be of good or great quality. not these pliers, though.

For what its worth, Brownell's will replace them. Getting that thing of was a serious pain in the butt.

I went to sears and got the red rubber jaw covers and put those on my regular old pliers. Never looked back.

I got mine from Fulton Armory and not that I have used them much, but they work well.

Isn't that a little hard on the spanner nut finish?
