DSA FAL Imbel Standard Rifle...a few questions for the experts.

I already have two rifles in .308...a Remington 700 for hunting and an LMT MWS for fun. I have several AR's and AK's and want to try something different. From what I read, this rifle will provide:

1. A solid / quality specimen of a time tested battle rifle...the FAL.
2. A .308 semi-auto that should have AK reliabilty...with AK accuracy (fine with me).
3. A .308 that is likely to eat about any .308 / 7.62x51...even steel cased crap.
4. A rifle that Is not a cheap version of a FAL but a "good deal" these days.
5. A platform where magazines and parts can still be readily found.

Am I correct on all accounts? Is there a better deal going? I do not want to build / have built my own. Can this $995 be beaten if I want a FAL shooter / not collecter rifle?

A properly built FNFAL with a serviceable barrel can reasonable be expected to produce 3 MOA with NATO surplus or better ammunition.

A properly head spaced FNFAL with a military chamber will reliably feed NATO specification 7.62X521mm or commercial 308Winchseter ammunition.

Yes

Thank you for the response. Since we're in the world of "you get what you pay for," any reson not to go with the $995 Imbel? I have no interest in collecter value; I just want to shoot it.

A chrome chamber won't hurt. OEM Imbel FALs had just the chamber chromed.
Main challenge with steel case ammo is that it expands fine for sealing/firing but does not snap back quite as well.

News footage had me fondling my Imbel kit build recently

I'm more than impressed with mine so far, the only negative thing was that the trigger was VERYheavy and gritty at first, after a few range sessions that has since went away

to be honest my M1A has a better trigger, sights, less recoil, and is actually lighter, BUT there is just something awesome about the FAL. Quite honestly if the perverbial SHTF I'd grab the DSA Imbel first

re. #5: The DSA/Imbel should do much better than "AK47" accuracy. I've owned several FALs as well as an AK47 and
with an FAL I can do very well with the iron sights. While a decent AK could be capable of acceptable accuracy the design
of the sights holds it back. Center of mass hits on a USPSA target at 200 yds are easy with the FAL using the iron sights.
I never tried that with the AK but doubt I could do as well due to the sights.

Once you get yours you may find that the trigger is a bit rough or heavy. It will get better with time.

While the FAL is not famous for accuracy it does the job it was designed for very, very well.
Very easy to use. Very reliable. Very easy to clean and maintain. Well engineered and well built.

For even more awesomeness you can convert yours to a Paratrooper configuration. 18" ballel with folding stock and
fits behind the seat of my truck very nice.

The DSA Imbel is probably the best deal going!

The FAL should give you a more accurate rifle than an AK especially past 200 yds and just as reliable!

The FAL has a much lighter felt recoil than an M1A not sure why anyone would think differently? Shoot them side by side and there is a huge difference in the FAL's favor.
Perhaps the poster has his gas regulator set wrong? To set correctly just adjust it until your brass ejects about 8' to the 2 o'clock position.

I do trigger jobs on FAL's to get the pull about 4 1/2 to 5 lbs which is usually half of what they are stock.

$55 plus return shipping, just need the non FFL lower receiver.
