FAL Question
Ok, Im in the market for a .308, (FAL, M1A, or G3) and Im looking at a DSA STG58 or the standard. Ive never heard of any problems until I started researching this and found quite a few. Should I be looking for something on the guns when looking at them to make sure I dont get one with a blem? Thanks for any suggestions you guys may have!
For about the same cash, I'd say get an M1A. The mag availability is better and it is a solid platform to begin with...that's what got me started.
Check out the falfiles.com market place. There are several FALs listed for sale. If you want a target rifle the M1A is the best . But if a combat style is what your after go with the FAL. DSA are good rifles and thier IMBEL model is a good buy. Go to a gun show and handle them before you decide. My vote is the FAL. I have two of them. Had a M1A before the FAL, great rifle but I will stay with my FAL.
I really enjoy my three FALs and my PTR-91. They're all fun to shoot and eat anything. You can't go wrong with them. Their accuracy is only fair.
You may want to consider a .308 AR. My DPMS 20" is a tack driver and mags aren't hard to find or too expensive. Many custom parts available, too.
I've had in my collection 2 M1A's, 2 G3's, and 5 FAL's in various configs. I still have the FAL's...

I have owned 3 M1As. All were Springfield Armory factory built rifles. One was purchased new in 1995. All of them were excellent rifles. (I did have to send the new one back to SA for warranty work. It was repaired within a reasonable amount of time.)
I sold all of them over time as they were bringing stupid amounts of money and I could build 3 excellent FNFALs for the price of one M1A and at the time I could buy 8 surplus 20 rd mags for the FN for the price of 1 M14 mag.
I did build those 3 FNs and stacked up a pile of mags and ammo. I miss having an M1A in the line up, but I do not regret what I did.
I would put 3 of my 6 FNs up against any factory standard M1A for reliability, durability, and accuracy. I would put all of them up in a battle accuracy competition.
OP, go ask this in the M1A forum and in the HK forum and see what responses you get.

For me...
AR10 pattern for best accuracy out of the box.
FAL for durability / reliability (though nothing wrong with AR10 pattern at all)
M1a....is not superior to either of the above in either area....and it is often more expensive. I've owned two.
Thanks guys! I cant find any info on DSA's sweb page about the Imbels? Are the STG's, classics or Imbels the way to go?

If I were to buy a current production DSA rifle, I would choose the IMBEL.

Last i looked, the Imbel's were gone....Aim was out too because my brother wanted one.
I'm new to FAL's, but went with the Imbel. I'm very happy and would buy another.
