Can I use a standard lower on a para without any mods?
I just installed a DSA para lower on a fal I'd never shot before. When I tried to sight it in I was still off with the rear sight all the way to the left. I was wondering if I can just put the lower from my other fal on it and see if it will sight in that way. Don' t see why it wouldn't work but figure I should check first. The other fal has a standard buttstock.
wow. That's off. Is the FS straight?
You can try, I don't see off the top of my head why it wouldn't, just make sure your receiver cover will still fit with the other lower. Been a long time since I had one, but will have a better answer for you soon when my new para kits arrives.
The standard lower will work with the Para-configured upper, just not vice versa.
ETA: I doubt it will do any good though. My money is on an improperly timed barrel.
that's what I was thinking.....
Only problem you may have is that if your para cover has a lug on the back, it may not close with a standard lower. Most para lowers have a channel cut down the recoil plate to allow the lug to slide down.
Hmm, I'll have to check into those details. I was figuring it might be an improperly timed barrel, but hoping it was something easier for me to fix.
I'll let you know what I figure out.
Thanks
If you can't get it to close, you can just rob the bolt carrier and top cover off your other FAL as well. But don't swap bolts.
Probably the reason your sights are off with the new lower is because it's not aligning properly with your upper. If the rifle sights in properly with the old lower in (and it sounds like you don't know yet), then the old lower may have been adjusted to fit the upper.
