mp5k pdw build... how to install front sight post
thats what i am curious about, how do you install it and how do you drill the hole threw the barrel to pin the post in place ?
There is a roll pin that runs from the front to the back through the sight blade. Go to he link below and you can get a clear picture of it.
MP5/MP5k front sight tree
remove the pin and then you remove the sight post/blade
my bad... how do u install the triple tree to the barrel ?
That I am not sure of.
you really need to make a fixture to hold the thriple frame preventing it from trying to turn as you drill through the eyelet hole, knoching the barrel band. It will take some time, but it'll take longer if you rush and end up canting the thriple. Then you have to pull the barrel, turn it to a 'virgin spot' and redrill the trunnion pin, etc.
I have seen a guy TIG a small tack weld on the back of the thriple and barrel to keep it from rotating during drilling, but I don't know if I'dd recommend that.
or i could put the barrel in first and pin it in place, set the triple and silver solder it in place then drill pin and heat the solder loose and ta da .. done
The easiest way for me to install a triple frame is to:
Apply silver braze flux to the barrel and slide the triple frame onto the barrel.
Insert a laser bore sighter into the barrel.
Make sure the rear drum is set into the middle position by loosening the top screw on the back of the drum and rotating the windage screw until the rear sight is set as close to the middle as possible and lock the top screw back down.
Look through the rear drum and see where the red dot is in relation to the front sight blade. I like to use a distance at least 10-15 yards or from the longest portion my house.
Use a soft face mallet or hammer and lightly tap the front sight until the front sight blade covers the dot. The goal is to get the front sight to either cover the red dot or have the red dot at the tip of the front sight blade. The dot may be higher or lower but the goal is to get the blade straight in relation to the rear drum and bore.
Remove the bore sighter and silver solder the triple frame onto the barrel.
Use a 3/16" end mill and slowly drill through the center of the triple frame. Don't use a drill bit because it will wander and make the hole oblong.
Tap the front sling pin eyelet through and use a punch and tap the back end until it mushrooms. You can make a tool to flare out the pin. I use a steel rod that has been slightly drilled (shallowly) as a tool to flare the back side, DONE
