DPMS Semi Automatic Sniper System.

Description from DPMS web site:

The DPMS LR-308 Semi Auto Sniper System (SASS) was born of military necessity. US Military Snipers and marksmen overseas found themselves rapidly switching from scenarios involving precision long range shooting one moment, to close, violent encounters where they were at a disadvantage due to the low ammunition capacity and slow rate of fire of their bolt action rifles. The Government sought a solution to this problem…The DPMS SASS is the answer.

With an 18” fluted bull barrel, free floating 4 rail hand-guards, and JP adjustable Trigger, it is capable of sub-MOA accuracy at long range, fulfilling its role as a precision rifle. The 20 + 1 ammunition capacity and semi auto fire control group ensure the shooter is never outgunned, and allows for faster follow up shots.

The rifle has one defect. The rail is chipped from sliding into the steel edge of a shooting bench at the range. Thankfully, the scope was untouched and the rifle was otherwise unaffected. I have placed rail covers over the chip.

I was asked via PM to post some pics of how this rifle groups, so I went to the range this morning to get some photos. I grabbed a target that someone else had only shot once and then placed a second target below that. I cleaned the rifle this morning and figured I would use the lower target to re-establish 0 from having the scope off and the rifle disassembled, as well as shoot a few rounds through the barrel to get rid of the remaing cleaning oil. The target was placed at 100 yards. Winds were calm.

I have always shot Federal 150 grain power shok through this rifle because it's cheap, but still groups well, and shoots pretty flat. I also brought a box of Federal Gold Medal Match 175 grain to see if that would do any better, and it's what I shoot through my bolt action 308.

First I fired 3 rounds at the lower target using the Federal 150 grain power shok to get rid of the remaining cleaning oil and check 0. The group looked pretty good, so I ran down and measured it.

Next, I tried the 175 grain match, but the group was larger. I'm not sure if this rifle likes the cheap ammo more or if the barrel is just used to it.

Lastly, I fired another 2 shots at the lower target using the 150 grain power shok, to get a 5 shot group size. The group was measured, the caliper was locked and then I tried to take a picture. Although the picture looks funny because of the angle, that was the group size.
