SHTF / Bug Out Bags

There is always a thread going on here regarding the "best", most critical items needed in the event of a natural disaster, SHTF scenario, zombie apocolypse, etc. I've been trying to put together a setup in a backpack that can get you started for accessorzing a pack with gear that can help you "survive" a 72hr. scenario where major & civic services are disrupted and where you could possibility be fending for yourself until aid arrives. This is not a complete setup in the sense that what is included here is all you need. Far from it, I think the general consensus is that each "SHTF / Bug Out Bag" should be customized by each owner based on their geographic location, most likely situation, etc. This pack & included gear covers your basic necessities of light, shelter, fire starting ability, first aid, and water purification. From there, you can add what you consider other necessities.

I started putting together this kit together by researching the perfect pack to act as the host. I chose the Condor Compact Modular Assault Pack as the host for the gear for the following reasons:

––segmented layout with numerous "molle" webbing points for you to add accessories, pouches, etc.;
––lightweight design that can be adjusted to fit a man, woman or child;
––durable zippers & material that should resist well the hazards of being thrown in & out of vehicles, bounced around in on an ATV, and water resistant in damp weather (note: NOT water proof, you'll need to cover it in a downpour);
––the survival & first aid items as part of this kit fit within 2 exterior pockets & 1 secondary cargo bay, leaving the main cargo section completely unused for you to add your personal gear;
