Need an apartment near Tampa soon
I am looking for either a month to month or short term apartment for one person starting some time in June or early July.
Can anyone near Tampa offer any guidance?
I have looked online and on craigslist but I don't want to end up in a shithole area or apartment.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
ETA I don't want to be IN Tampa, just somewhere near enough so I can utilize the airport relatively easily.
I would probably prefer north of the city since that's where we are looking at houses.
No area is completely safe. About the safest and nicest($$) would be down on the peninsula. South of Kennedy Blvd but north of Gandy Blvd.
Where are you going to be working? This makes a huge difference.

I am going to be working a territory from Mississippi around up to Virginia, so there is absolutely no need for me to be within commuting distance of anything.
We just really like the Tampa area and are looking at houses in the Hudson/New Port Richey areas.

It would have helped if you spelled that out before hand.
Why not get an apartment in the area you want to live to feel out
the area?

To be fair I did say "near Tampa" in my OP.
Like I said, we are looking at houses north of Tampa so I guess I would be interested in that area.
I have been looking online at places like craigslist and really have no idea what is good and what's not.

Near Tampa Covers a VERY BIG AREA.
Good luck

So you have no tips/pointers/advice to offer?
is work or you paying for this?
it'll be hard to get a short term house, as they will have to do a thurough cleaning after you leave, unless you'll be there at least 6 months.
you might try the extend stay version of the motel 6 chain, if it is any good in tampa. I have stayed in some before and they were clean. there are other chains around. I would avoid stuff like suburban lodge(?) i think - tend to be lower end.
Find the address of a place, then find it on gootle/bing map, on satelite view, see what is around, and also go check out the crime map for the areas.
sorry, not familiar with tampa

I get a housing allowance until my house here in Wisconsin sells.
Maybe an extended stay would be the ticket rather than trying to find a furnished, short term apartment.
Thanks!
I'd go for the old northeast in St. Pete. St. Pete traffic is a lot more reasonable and it's easier to get to the Tampa airport NB (except during the afternoon rush hour) than it is to go southward from North Tampa at any time. You also have St. Pete/Clearwater airport as well. Don't let the bad rep of the south side of St. Pete sway you from St. Pete itself 末 the south side is really bad, but it's all in one area; stay North of Central and East of 4th St. and it's pretty nice.
There are tons of short term housing options in the Tampa Bay. There's a hotel off of south Howard called the Hyde Park Hotel:
http://hotelinhydepark.com/Hyde_Park_Hotel/Home.html. It says the weekly rate is 345, but I'd bet you could talk him down on it. The rooms are small, but it's in a very nice area of Tampa and, for the area, is cheaper than most of the apartments, with the sacrifice being that you only get one room and a kitchenette.
There's an Extended Stay America off of Ulmerton that's also pretty reasonable and seems pretty safe, though the traffic in the area is a little heavy at times 末 the good part is that you shouldn't be stuck in it for more than about a mile. I've spotted BFLs in the parking lot there before too (red SUV, also had a 7.62 inside sticker on the back, so perhaps someone can vouch for it).
Then, there's always

I would check out North Pinellas like Palm Harbor. Are you going to the airport during rush hour or off hours? There is an area called Boot Ranch and it is probably about 15 miles from the airport. I believe there are a couple of apartment complexes in that area.
Now those are the kinds of responses I was hoping for.
Thanks for the advice guys.
Anybody else?

I would like to point out that I was not trying to be an ass. I was trying
to get you to give us more info. Your original post did not say much and
was trying to point out that the Tampa Area is rather large.
I still give the same advice I did earlier, try to get a place in the area
your are looking at buying a house.
Good luck and if you like fishing and water sports you are looking in a good
place and it is worse than BRD ever was.

I should have been more specific that there was no certain area of Tampa I needed to be in. The nature of my job is awesome that it allows me to live wherever I want.
No harm, no foul.
Thanks for the help.
What are you looking for neighborhood-wise? There are all sorts of nice areas and it makes a big difference if you're looking for closeted suburbs or a place you can go out and party all night and walk home from the bars safely without risking getting mugged or having to spend a fortune on a taxi.
ETA: There is still rush hour traffic on it, but if you decide to live in a neighborhood north of Tampa, get close to the Veteran's expressway. It's a toll road and will cost you a couple dollars to/from the airport, but it's a quick direct route that will take you directly to the airport. It runs slowly during rush hour, but is wide open the rest of the time.

I lived in Old Northeast for several years and would move back.
