Is this a gay question?
Can i shoot my air rifle on my townhouses' side yard legally? I've never owned one, and I just bought a gamo rifle that looks just like a REM 700....
I would obviously never test fire my real rifles out there

but even if a neighbor mistakes the air rifle for a real one and calls the cops...is it illegal? I'm obviously not under 18 and I will be shooting at a target with a 5-gallon bucket full of sand behind it...
Do you have an HOA? Might be an issue, they can be nazi's.
How about the closest neighbor to the "range"? Cool? Douche?
Personally, I would do it without thinking twice, just bouncing off the usual issue sources.
If you have a good relationship with your neighbors I would just give them a heads-up that you have a "BB gun" (KISS for them) and may occasionally shoot it safely on your property.
read 790.xxx about air rifle in the state of Fla and sooting them. FLA LAW first then worry about the association and your neighbors

hilight and put into address box
The links point to statutes from 2000. They are out of date. Make sure you change the year if you use these links.

Check with local LEO. Waaay back in the early 80's I was hauled in by PD in Broward County for "discharging a firearm in city limits". The "firearms" were BB/pellet guns and we were out in the woods at least a half mile from any house. We were minors and our parents had to come down to the police station to pick us up. My father actually spoke up about it and the PD stated that BB guns were considered firearms. That was a lifetime ago and maybe the PD were full of shit but it was a waste of a day. Check and make sure to be safe. Who knows what the penalties would be now for adults. Hell, now kids get arrested for fighting in school.
The only law in FL far as I can see is someone must be 18, but besides that it's just the same as a BB gun/nerf gun/water gun but it just looks like a real gun...
I'm sure in an LEO wanted to go all out you can get hauled away for 'scaring the public' or something lol

I just made the link hot. My only advice for the OP is the same thing that I tell everyone: If you don't like The Man being in your life, don't do anything to invite him.
Just an air rifle?

Pussy. I shoot air rifles, bb guns, tater guns, paint ball guns, nail guns, bows, crossbows and slingshots. I throw knives, axes, spears and stars.

The LEOs were only call on me once and that was for cutting down a tree.

I'm gonna do it this weekend. Check the local news.

I'm not aware of any prohibition in state law but I would check local ordinances.

The State preempts and makes local ordinances regulating firearms unlawful.

I understand that but an air gun is not a firearm (unless there is some legal definition I'm missing).
ETA: I just glanced at the statute and definitions and it appears that airguns would not automatically be included in the preemption (Which states firearms and ammunition). Is there some case law that states that airguns are included? IMO, it should be "weapons" and not just firearms but it doesn't read that way. Hence why the mayor of Tampa wanted Gov Scott to allow the inclusion of firearms to the ban on other stuff during the convention time.
My dad and his friend were plinking in our backyard with their air rifles, and the guy that lives behind us, supposesdly an ex-cop and known to be a douche with us before calling the HOA about other things threatened to call the police if they didn't stop.
