OK, my cousin just told me tonight that he went to a Gun dealer in the Bay area and one one the employee's showed him a Colt ar-15 that are being sold again. Anybody hear of this? I have seen sometime recently on the forum something about this. What's the skinny.

Colt changed the model designation on a couple of their lowers and now they are legal here. Pretty much that simple.

He asked me because he wanted to buy it. He did not want something made by someone else with the Colt stamp on it.

Yup, same Colt you can get in the rest of the free world. Just has a California legal designation.

It's the same gun. Colt dropped the LE6920 (which is on the ban list in CA) and renamed it the SP6920. Same exact gun, same Colt quality, different model number.
Hats off to Colt for doing that.

I think that the newer models have a mil spec diameter trigger pin and the older LE6920 had a larger diameter trigger pin.

I believe they also dropped that goofy sear block, and all carriers are m16 carriers now.

Several other manufacturers are also changing the rollmarks on their recievers to make them "off-list".
