I am looking to get and have installed a LP standby generator for the house.
Anyone have any recommendations?
Who can I talk to?
What should I look for or ask?

Your advice is appreciated.
Thanks.

Call John Callaway, Calco Electric, 480-985-7280. John is a fellow sportsman and gun nut.

A standby generator in my opinion is not a cost effective way to back up the house.
Figure a special switch which locks out the grid when its on.
Figure you will use it 2-3x a year.
Figure it will rust/require maintenance MORE than you will use it.
Figure you GOTTA get a permit or else the utility will throw a shit fit when they see it.

Look into a solar/wind setup with a Sunny Island. THen at least you are reducing your electric bill and getting a backup system.

I used to sell solar. I used to design overhead and underground systems for the largest publicly owned utility in the USA. I have seen the good and the bad.

How often are you really going to need a backup? if its 2-3x a year for 1-2 days then a gas 2000 watt Honda is the way to go. buy an extension cord and plug in the fridge and cook on your camp stove. WAY less expensive and you still preserve your food.

Hello photog,

I already have a 500 gal LP tank, which at the current rate will last me 2.5 years before needing a refill.
I want something will come on automatically on its own, even if I'm not there and I want to power more than just the fridge, especially if it 110*+ outside.
Being in a rural/desert area, I cannot count on fast response from the utility company.

And if nothing else, I would at least like to ather information on what's involved and how mush it would cost $$$$.

Keep an eye on Craigslist for cheap used ones. I've seen a few propane backups in the area at good prices.
