Someone got really mad at me for open carrying....
Walking out of Lowes with my bud someone walks up behind us and says "Hey why do you guys have guns, are you cops?" in an angry voice. I knew it was only going to go down hill from there. I was ready to just keep walking and ignore the guy so I just say "no" and keep walking. He then says "So why do you have guns?" I keep walking and just say "because people are murdered, raped, and robbed every day. My buddy wanted to stay and talk to him though... My bud brings up the Shapiros that couple that was just hog tied and then shot in the back and burnt alive. At that comment the guy says "well I was a cop for 30 years and I never carried a gun out of uniform!" my buddy keeps bringing up really valid points so the guys just walks away.
It's crazy to think how many Americans fight and die to secure these rights and others just want to throw them away.
I kept trying to just walk away but my friend wanted to stop. I did say one thing that the guy just ignored though I said "They are really good to have when irate people confront you in parking lots" it went right over his head.
I know I was being an extreme public nuisance by buying some flowers at lowes but did this guy really have to go out of his way to chase me down? What the fuck is wrong with people...
What kind of flowers did you buy?

Shoulda said "Neighborhood Watch mofo!!"
Too soon?

I'm not sure I pulled them out of the Arizona Living section, I've got a few huge flower beds around my house that I keep stocked.

I should have said something fucking stupid. It doesn't matter what you say to these idiots.
edit: I should have done this, go to 53 seconds in
Serious questions.
Do you ever have any good experiences in life? Ever have any positive, upbeat posts?
You have like a negative aura about you.

Yes I do but since you don't know me you don't see them. If you want I can tell you some good things from time to time in PM's if it makes you feel better. I'll shoot you an update in 2-3 hours about how I am enjoying my day off right now and what I'm up too.

This is why I only OC in the woods.I'm not saying there is any thing wrong with OCing in town, but I don't want the attention that comes with it.
Thank for the offer, but no.
Usually it's about someone approaching you about your OC, how you bladed someone, how you pissed of some libtard or how you're angry at society. Just saying. Need to lighten up in the world.

Awesome!
And yeah, I avoid OC because I like to avoid attention. Same reason I don't wear gun shirts or crazy logo clothes.

Reservist's posts have to grow on you for a while. His life is hard because he is smarter than everyone he knows from the US Army, from his college and from his job. It ain't easy.

IN THIS THREAD:

Same thing happened to me at Home Depot yesterday.
I swiped back my duster and yelled "Fill yer hand, you sonofabitch!!!"
His pregnant wife shuffled him along at that point. I removed my eye patch before the cops came. It was all good.

That is 100% win. My next custom lower will have that, no doubt about it.

Called sun devil they said they'd have to laser engrave it instead of being stamped or milled in :(
Anyways 3 more weeks for my pistol and then SBR 300blk build everything is sitting in the closet less the receivers

Custom run of lowers from AGP perhaps?
I don't usually open carry for that reason, to many idiots up here but last time I did a old guy stopped me and thanked me for carrying. I was shocked as he shook my hand. Pretty cool. EECEAD.
I don't OC around civilization for this reason. I don't need/want the attention.
ETA: Unless I'm riding a motorcycle on the street. People always seem to see you when you OC on a bike.
I used to open carry when I got my first handgun, being from California, I just liked the idea that I was able to. After a few incidents of getting unwanted attention from law enforcement in public locations, I applied for my CCW and haven't gone back to open carrying.
I prefer not to be the center of attention wherever I go, I'd rather get in and out without being noticed.

^ This
I used to open carry as well. After about ten of those guys i started to realize it was making me a target. I open carry when I hunt and thats about it.
See pocket pistol thread for suggestions.
It's good for people to see regular guys going about their business and saying please and thank you while open carrying. It desensitizes people to the idea of regular citizens carrying firearms. It makes anti-gunners look stupid when others see them confronting people trying to buy flowers. I don't give a shit who gets butt hurt over it. It only makes us look better when some anti gunner can't keep his composure together.
I completely understand open carrying is not for everyone, if you aren't comfortable open carrying then you really shouldn't be doing it.
I tend to open carry as a "teaching moment" when it arises. Some people have genuine questions when you carry, others are a holes...same as life. I also like to think i am "normalizing" the sighting of firearms in public every time i have an "armed man goes to XXXXXXX, and nothing happened" day. Like today..armed man entered 2 queen creek banks, and nothing happened :)
What part of Town/State was this?
Ditto on the OC while riding. They seem to remeber your in the next lane better.

It's called Karma. Negative things will continue to happen to him. He must repent by raking up a suitable number of shotgun hull piles.

Phoenix!
I used to OC daily, but it's just not practical for me any more. I never got much unwanted attention in the Chandler or Gilbert areas, but ALWAYS caught dirty looks and comments while in Tempe and Scottsdale.

I'd OC more regularly now if I was still working days and/or allowed to carry at work.
SOME cops seem to be against people carrying guns. I think they feel dissed or something that you don't trust the people that are "on the way" to save your life with their psychic powers from half a mile away.

lol
Only time I ever had anyone say anything ( I open carry pretty much all the time) was at walmart late at night some old ladies (40s) wanted to touch it.
no acts of courage or bravery were displayed in this thread....

What would you guess is the percentage of fellow LEOs that feel the same or are at least agnostic to OC/CCW?
I saw two people open carrying at Walmart the other day. I love Arizona!

90% of patrol guys at my agency. I find It's big city cops who are the opposite.

It is a pretty rough specimen indeed!
... 20 years ago I used to open-carry. However the state now allows lawful concealed-carry.
Why anyone would OC and draw unneeded attention to themselves these days is beyond me.
I carry everyday, but don't have any of these cool stories, bro

I have had some very good interactions with the Yavapai Sheriff dept on this.
A couple of years ago I got a call from my neighbor saying some strange guy was walking on her property and looking around the out buildings. He made no attempt to knock on the house door or make contact. We live in a rural area (2.5-5 acre lots, dirt roads) so we don’t get a lot of people just walking around like this. Her husband was in town and she asked if I could come over. Coincidently there had been reports of break-ins in the general area.
I tell my two sons (19 & 20 at the time) to get their pistols (holstered OC) and we walk to the neighbors home about 800 ft from my house. Neighbor gives us a description of the guy and the last direction he was seen walking – down the dirt road. I and my younger son proceed down the road and my older son parallels us about 100 ft off the road in the low chaparral being very quiet.
About 100 yards down the road we find a beat up car with New Hampshire plates and a twenty something guy matching the description at the side of the car. No visible weapons on him and I say hello as we approach. I ask if he was walking the local property and he say yes and indicates he is working for a realtor and is scouting and taking photos for a newly listed lot next to my neighbors. He does have a camera and tripod next to the car and a couple of boxes full of realtor flyers in the back seat. I tell him he was on my neighbor’s property and had scared her by trespassing. He apologizes and said he was looking for a good vantage point to take photos.
During most of this discussion my older son had closed to about 30 feet from behind the guy and was quietly observing unnoticed.
From everything he said and what I saw his story checked out as being legit. I told him he should announce himself if he goes on someone property since we don’t get a lot of strangers walking around and most of us are armed, I patted my holstered gun to make the point. At that point I called to my older son to come over and when the guy realized that there was a third armed person that he did not see his look was priceless.
At that point I asked if needed any water and he declined (this was in July and it was hot). We then left to tell our neighbor what had transpired.
A few days later the Sheriff dept called to follow up on my neighbor’s report of the incident. I told him basically the above and said I hope we did not cause a problem. He replies that my actions may be a problem in ‘the city’ but out here they encourage this behavior. At that point the smile on my face was big enough that he could probably see it from his office.
My neighbor now refers to us as “the Posse”
About once a year I hear about someone getting shit for OC'ing in Phoenix. You'd think that verbally assaulting someone in possession of a firearm would not be the most logical of decisions, but seems logic is not a strong point with the people whining about guns.
The best response so far seems to be a smile, a "Welcome to Arizona, Sir/Ma'am" and carry on with your business.
To hell with OC I've been verbally abused by a lady when i was CCW and she asked me to grab something off a top shelf for her and saw the bottom of my holster.
I prefer to be the grey man
I don't really open carry or conceal. I carry a G21 in an OWB holster that I bought because it is comfortable and draws REALLY fast, not because it conceals worth a damn. So yeah, my shirt is over my pistol, but anyone with at least half a lobe of their brain can see I have a pistol unless I am dressing right for it. When I wear my marching band underarmor I'm pretty sure you can read the glock logo through the T-shirt.

Hahaha, that's my favorite line too.
Generally I use it when freshman from California are worried about how "wild west" Arizona is and verbally express an interest in how many people carry. I then reply that whenever I'm off campus or sober, I am armed. They are generally shocked by this, to which I smile and say, "Welcome to Arizona."
