ARF hunters
Arfcom Colorado hunters... I need some help and information... I live on 50 acres, surrounded by several other 50-60 acre neighbors. I don't hunt, but don't have a problem with it and have always allowed access to hunters who have asked.
Yesterday, we had some Jo bobs shoot from my neighbors land, down the side of my property line, onto another neighbors land, into the rocky hillside. My wife was about 200 yards downrange walking a horse on our driveway, and about 40 yards off of their shot. In my opinion it was an unsafe shot, and I drove down and read them the riot act. I don't want to discourage hunting(I actually want to get out and try myself) but yesterday left a bad taste in my mouth.
Do I need to post my land to deny hunting access to these dimwits?
What season are they hunting right now?(northern co front range)
Should I be calling Dow or the sheriff over this?
I'm willing to bet they were too focused through their optics, or just idiots. Either way, their "hunting" didn't seem too sporting... They parked in my neighbors driveway(who is out of town), waddled 30 yards to some rocks in his pasture, then take 300 yard potshots into the rocky foothills when they see something move... Despite the fact that there are 4 houses clearly downrange to the left and right.
I don't want to be a pain for all hunters, just these dipsticks.
Are the neighbors good? Did they give permission to hunt on their land? Talk with the neighbors and let them know what happened. If the are good neighbors those people won't be back next year unless they make amends to you.
Neighbors are great, just out of town... (I hope!). I'll check with them when they get back; I suspect these dorks probably had permission, which of course doesn't excuse an unsafe shot.
What rifle season is open right now?

Check your unit:

I would call CDOW and let them know what happened. The Warden(s) assigned to your area would want to hear about that. Hopefully you had the presence of mind to get their description and vehicle/tag info. There are rules about distances from "occupied areas" and shooting. The Wardens will know all that stuff off the top of their heads, I'd have to look them up.
I'm sorry about your experience. Really gives us hunters a lousy reputation (well deserved for those buffoons) and certainly doesn't do anything to further your future generosity in allowing access to your property. Ethical hunters would have been offering you a bag of meat, not "shooting at your wife".
Thanks guys. I know not all hunters are like this. I think that what made me he maddest is my 6 year old daughter got a negative impression of guns from the whole ordeal, and I've been working so hard to try to share my hobby.
You can call either the DOW or the Sheriff for cases of unsafe shooting. But I've found the DOW more responsive to those calls.
YOu have 50 acres, collect guns and yet you dont hunt? Dang.
I wanna come out and shoot coyotes if you got any! :)
