Opinions on moving to Orange County, Va
Hi, I will be moving to central Va in the very near future. I am looking for info about Orange County, Va. I am looking to rent a house or condo for at least 6 months. Schools are important because I have a 5yo. Thanks, C.
Homeschool. And its cheaper next door in Louisa.
Yeah, it's cheaper in Louisa, alright. But you get what you pay for. County government in Louisa is run by the "good ol' boys", who dislike newcomers, and look out only for themselves. I wouldn't live in Louisa County if the house were free.
I lived in Lake of the Woods for 6years (moved to PWC last summer) and my daughter went to Locust Grove elementary and it was okay. Nothing spectacular but if I still lived there I wouldn't lose any sleep over her going back there. I wouldn't recommend living in that neighborhood though. It's nice but the HOA is a bit much and run by crotchety old retirees.
I grew up in King George and Orange reminds me a lot of that. A typical rural area, no big crime or drug problems that I saw.
Commuting is a bitch though, any commute other than to Fredericksburg is going to suck and even then you have to deal with RT3.

op will be commuting to north of Cville which is gravy compared to up toward Fredricksburg and rt3.
My commute will be to North Charlottesville right off rt 29 (north of the airport.)
Orange is a bit of a haul for commuting to NGIC - what made you decide to live there?
Im trying to check all areas near where I will work. It seems like Orange county taxes are low.

The Orange County line is just 4 miles East of Ruckersville on 33 and closer if you get closer to Preddy Creek.
It is closer than the Madison County line North of Ruckersville.
The Town of Orange is another story but still not far and a better commute than coming out of Charlottesville.
