I hate living this close to uneducated northerners
I am tired of people telling me that my portrait of Stonewall Jackson promotes slavery. I get this from work and I get this from my fiance's family she is African American. I hated to leave the 116th Stonewall brigade I still wear the combat patch verse the 29ID patch but dang people do not know their history and the next one that tells me my family got their land by slavery I will kick your ass like my fiance's brother in law. You do not know what a Southern Democrat, Virginia Guardsmen, Civil Affairs Officer, and a MAN can do when you piss them off.
I will show you the bayonet if you go against my honor.
Sorry ranting but it made me feel better.
I went to Stonewall Jackson High School. Lots of black students there, but I guess that was before they knew they were angry.

Sounds like you're in a pickle.
I'm from the north and I know that a picture of Stonewall Jackson is nothing more than a picture. Some people just have a bone to pick, it's not a northern thing.
Hell, I moved to Staunton when I was younger and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School (oh the irony, right?).
Lighten up, Francis. Not all us Northerners are ignorant. This here is my distant Kinfolk....
Lieutenant General Jubal Early (CSA)
Sounds like someone is still pissed they lost the war.......................................................as far i'm concerned were one nation and all the North South shit is one reason were fucked....
Freaking War of Northern Agression!

Tell them that when they start paying your bills then they can tell you what to hang in your home. Otherwise they can STFU and then go read up on history.
Here's Mine:
John Francis Neff adjident to Stonewall Jackson, injured and died 4mi from my house

You wear the Stoney on a Pony for a combat patch?

Therein lies half the problem. Between reading up on "history" (from many sources) and what history they WERE taught in school, their thoughts on the matter "make sense". It's not that they're UNeducated (well, maybe they are), but chances are they are MISeducated.
Had you asked me when I was in high school what the Civil War was all about... I'd answer "slavery". If you followed up by asking "what else?"... that'd be my only answer! That's what is taught in schools. That's what pops up on most of the random "historical" websites now that speak of the Civil War. Any other reasons for the sucession of the Southern States? Nope.

Saying "slavery" is a fine answer since all the States Rights issues circle back to "slavery" anyway.
ETA: And there are still Southern Democrats?
My grandfather was from one of the counties in PA where everybody votes Democrat because that's what they've done since Democrats have existed and even he and a lot of others wised up after Kerry.
So having some Civil War art = you support slavery, huh? Well, if that’s the case, I guess that I’m fooked, as I own several Mort Künstler prints.
As far as the ‘they fought for slavery’ schtick – maybe, maybe not. Sure, some may very well have done so, but there were just as many, if
not the vast majority who fought because it was their state, not because they were slave owners.
Today, we say that we’re Americans, and that we reside in “X” state. Back then, you were a Virginian, or Texan, etc., which happened to be a
part of the United States. As I’ve gotten deeply into my family history, I’ve found one single GGG(?) Aunt on my Dad’s side who owned a few
slaves, and she lived in MD. Those evil border states...

And turns out, that was because the family had moved decades before from VA, and
even then, she basically inherited them after her father died. There were only two (so there goes the ‘wealthy plantation owner’ stereotype) –
one who worked with the father & brothers on the farm, and one woman who worked in the house. When she did get them, she freed them both,
as she had no need for slaves, as she was a widow, had sold most of the property, and according to her diary, just was bothered by the whole
idea. The man left for parts unknown, but the woman stayed there until she died, and is buried there in the family plot.
So yeah, you can say that ultimately, the war was over slavery or state’s rights, but everybody involved wasn’t necessarily part of the ‘master
plan’, but fought because they felt it was their duty to their home state.

Sure we do, but back then, it was also more of a mindset that your state was the principal
governing body, and the primary governing body that you had to deal with in your life.
Joe Sixpack didn't have many dealings, if any, with the Fed Gov't.
