Does anyone here currently have or had problems in the past with Amica insurance for being a gun owner?

I just bought a house and am moving from West Hartford to Avon. I called Amica for some house insurance...they started drilling me about how many guns to I own, how often do I carry....

In the end, they said I was uninsurable because I was a liability!

Why would you volunteer information about guns? Insure them through the NRA as a collection.

That is beyond fucked.

Did they ask you how much alcoholic beverages you keep in the house too?

Plenty of other insurers out there willing to take your money though I bet.

Well it started with a simple question - Do you own any firearms?

I didn't think I was going to be interrogated on how often I have my piece on me, how are they locked up, where are they locked up.....Had a family member not told me that the rates were very good, I would have hung up a while ago.

Yeah no kidding about the alcohol. Am I uninsurable too because I have a couple of 30-packs floating around the house?

That is screwy. I have Middlesex Mutual (agency out of Torrington) and they've insured me for 30 years, now. Never once did they ask about firearms. Recommend you just abandon them for someone else. There is plenty of competition out there for good homeowners.

Yup once they told me today that I was uninsurable, I hung up and called Geico....Got some decent rates for the house in Avon. Now if only Metacon would increase its member capacity...

You will save money if you put your homeowners with your auto. Just a thought.

Call State Farm. I have my homeowners and auto through them and they even include a "no questions asked $2k firearms coverage" off the bat, in addition to jewelry, computer, and artwork. The riders can be rewritten for a higher dollar amount per your request.

ETA sorry I was short on time earlier and didn't remember to post this.

Ended up with Geico since they insure my vehicles too. I had state farm before, but they raised my rates 4 times for no reason, and I have never made a claim. Nice to know they have an actual firearm plan though, I'll have to look into that

Couple years ago when I was researching insurance options, I called Amica because they're highly rated. As they asked me questions so they could give me a quote on home insurance I was asked about guns. I hung up without answering the question & then did an internet search to find out out anti-gun the company is. I was pretty annoyed I wasted my time.

I used to have Amica and they pulled that with me. They wanted a list of my firearms. I told them I had separate insurance and would not give them a list. I switched to another company.

They asked my wife if we had any guns when we signed on, and she said yeah, my husband has a rifle. When they pressed she said I think it's a 22. They didn't ask anymore.
