How big of a target would KC be for nuclear strikes, and why?

Lets say a full on nuclear exchange with russia. Why would KC be targeted? There are obvious reasons and some not so obvious.

Would Sprint HQ in KS be considered? I've heard they handle a lot of government communications.....true?

If anyone ever unleashes a nuke it won't matter where you are IMO cuase we are all screwed and if you survive you'll wish you where dead. Just my opinion ymmv.

I can't see why the HQ would be targeted, but the data centers, maybe. On 9/11 there were officers sent to each of the data centers.

We also have a few data centers around KC that are used for Financial data, I would expect those to also be a large target.

I would say top 100 due to bendix operations in the fed buildings. Whiteman and Omaha will make top 50 if not 20 so we would get wash from them anyways.

We had some govt types sent in to a few of our locations on 9/11 and a few other times that I can't remember the dates....

Not sure what they thought they were gonna do...

Yep, LOTS of voice and data through KC. Also we are the second largest rail hub in the nation. Honeywell's plant, the largest producer of the nonnuclear components in nuclear weapons. Etc, lots of reasons we are a target.

If nukes started flying from Russia or China KC would not be a good place to be.

Knocking out KC AND St. Louis would cripple communications and shipping in the Midwest.

They are building a nuclear weapons parts facility at 150 and 71. So yeah, we're toast.

Not to mention that many many of the nukes actually target other silos. And KS and MO are full of them. So in a full exchange expect to see missiles hitting every few min in a tight grid. They come in staggered to they dont destroy each other and with a long enough lag that most of the large debris is out of the air.

Scary stuff this is...

Honestly though I don't believe there will ever be a full scale nuclear war from nation to nation.

Alien invasion is probably higher on my list of things to worry about!

I'm more worried about federal elections, I'm within the blast radii of at least two high value targets... no time to worry about that.

Not to mention crippling ammo and fighter production. Plus Boeing has a digital warfare center that you can run a war from if needed.

Forget the Russkies and the Chi-Coms, will the rest of Missouri launch on St. Louis?

Not likely to get hit as 20 years ago when missile silos dotted central Missouri.

KC would likely be a target of consenquence with Whiteman AFB within 60 miles.

It is interesting and scary to think about.

from the Comms aspect you hit these cities: KC, Lincoln, Chicago, and Houston. Chicago and Houston are really about internet communications/services, Lincoln and KC are about everything else... Things would get ugly and fast.

We used to be like #5 on the Russian nuke list. Primarily because of our population, central location, transportation and communication hub, and large river near by, and our proximity to both Richard Gebaur and Whiteman AF bases. But, I'm sure they had the bases targeted separately.

Offutt AFB (Omaha) was the #1 U.S. target. Rosecrans field in St. Joseph was pretty high on the list because it was the secondary airfield for the Looking Glass.

There was a time when military doctrine taught decentralization as a key aspect of survivability.

If you have paid attention to anything the .gov does today you will see this no longer applies.....

Yup, that's why I shake my head every time I hear about DOD consolidating more and more stuff onto fewer and fewer bases. Makes it a much more lucrative target to take out and much more damaging. All in the name of cost savings. Stupid, stupid stupid.

Whats the accuracy of russian nukes(i know they dont need to be very accurate lol)

Hell... how accurate are our nukes? I'm guessing accurate enough to hit small targets like silos and factorys.

Col. Andy Tanner: [Describing the invasion] West Coast. East Coast. Down here is Mexico. First wave of the attack came in disguised as commercial charter flights same way they did in Afghanistan in '80. Only they were crack Airborne outfits. Now they took these passes in the Rockies.
Jed Eckert: So that's what hit Calumet.
Col. Andy Tanner: I guess so. They coordinated with selective nuke strikes and the missiles were a helluva lot more accurate than we thought. They took out the silos here in the Dakotas, key points of communication.
Darryl Bates: Like what?
Col. Andy Tanner: Oh, like Omaha, Washington, Kansas City.
Darryl Bates: Gone?
Col. Andy Tanner: Yeah. That's right. Infiltrators came up illegal from Mexico. Cubans mostly. They managed to infiltrate SAC bases in the Midwest, several down in Texas and wreaked a helluva lot of havoc, I'm here to tell you. They opened up the door down here, and the whole Cuban & Nicaraguan armies come walking right through, rolled right up here through the Great Plains.
Robert: How far did they get?
Col. Andy Tanner: Cheyenne, across to Kansas. We held them at the Rockies and the Mississippi. Anyway, the Russians reinforced with 60 divisions. Sent three whole army groups across the Bering Strait into Alaska, cut the pipeline, came across Canada to link up here in the middle, but we stopped their butt cold. The lines have pretty much stabilized now.
Robert: What about Europe?
Col. Andy Tanner: I guess they figured twice in one century was enough. They're sitting this one out. All except England, and they won't last very long.

Do you guys have Vinson Mortgage radio commercials in KC? If so, I think that is your biggest risk factor for being annihilated, and rightfully so.
