Hi All,

Looking for some tips here. Driving from CLT to DC in the next few weeks. Will be towing a travel trailer upo that way and looking for any advice on either the 85/95 or the 77 to the 81 to the 66....I have only made the drive 1 time into Arlington but will be going to MD just on the other side of DC. leaving on a Sat early so hopefully traffic not to big an issue...

Thanks for anything you can throw my was for help..

If it was me, I'd do 85/95

How big of a trailer, and what is your final destination in MD?

A fun way is to run up past Richmond VA and hit exit 104 and take US 301 up. This can really save you time if you are going to hit DC. at rush hour. You can Jump off at Waldorf MD. and head west into DC. There are some lights but it is faster than dealing with DC. traffic.
I highly suggest if you have some time to spare running US 50/301 east from DC. on your way back then run US 50 south to Salisbury MD. Where you can pick up US. 13 south and cross the Chesapeake bridge to the Bay area. That bridge is almost twenty miles long and sometimes you can see Dolphins if you have a tall enough vehicle. Not to mention you can fill your ice chest with lots of Blue Crabs for cheap on the way home.

I make this drive all the time, and have been taking the 85/95 route lately. If you are leaving on Saturday you shouldn't hit any major traffic except if you are getting off 95 and headed up the 495 side of the beltway towards Tysons Corner. They are building the HOT lanes and there is construction traffic. Last time I went 81/77 there was road work and they had it 1 lanes for miles. This was about 2 months ago so maybe it's gone.

Its a 35ft trailer behing a F250...Basically a small big rig....From what I am seeing the 85/95 may be th better way as the 66 apparently is as bad ito the 495 and I have to hitthat as I am going to College Park MD to a place called Cherry Hills RV resort.

I'm from right down the road in Riverdale.

I second the suggestion to take 301 rather than 95. 95 is a crap shoot.

I'm going to take to take this trip as well in mid-may up to the northern side of DC from Charlotte, will be my first time Making the run and will only be driving a two door car, but didn't think about making a thread asking for suggestions. So thank you for that OP.
