This information was announced today by the NRA-ILA:

Tennessee: NRA-Drafted Employee Protection Legislation Introduced

House Sponsors Still Needed for Companion Bills – Please Contact Your
State Representative Today

The 2012 Session of the Tennessee General Assembly is underway. On January 25, Senate Bill 3002 and Senate Bill 2992 were introduced by state Senator Mike Faulk (R-4). These NRA-drafted bills would prevent employers from discriminating and enforcing policies against the storage of lawfully-owned firearms in employees' locked private motor vehicles parked at work.

SB 3002 would recognize that hard-working Tennesseans’ right to self-defense does not end when they drive onto their employer’s property or into publicly accessible parking lots. It will allow firearms to be stored out of sight in a locked vehicle. SB 2992 is a Firearm Discrimination Prevention bill that would protect law-abiding gun owners from anti-gun policies by employers across the state, including forced firearm registration, random vehicle firearm searches, and “gun zone” parking lots for gun owning employees. SB 2992 coincides with SB 3002.

These bills are still in need of House sponsors. Please contact your state Representative today and ask them to sponsor the companion bills for both SB 3002 and SB 2992. Contact information for your state Representative can be found here. Also, please contact House Speaker, Beth Harwell (R-56), and urge her to support the House companion bills when introduced. The Speaker can be contacted by phone at (615) 741-0709 or via e-mail; speaker.beth.harwell@capitol.tn.gov.

Beth Harwell has said she does not feel there is any need for any new gun related legislation this year. Let us contact her to say we need sponsors for these companion bills in the House.

Tennessee: House Companion Employee Protection Bills Filed

Please Contact Your State Legislators to Support Today

Yesterday, we reported that two NRA-drafted employee protection bills were filed in the Tennessee Senate, Senate Bill 2992 and Senate Bill 3002. We are pleased to announce that the House companion bills have now been filed. Today, House Bill 3560 and House Bill 3559 were introduced by state Representative Eddie Bass (D-65). These NRA-drafted bills would prevent employers from discriminating and enforcing policies against the storage of lawfully-owned firearms in employees' locked private motor vehicles parked at work.

HB 3560 would recognize that hard-working Tennesseans’ right to self-defense does not end when they drive onto their employer’s property or into publicly accessible parking lots. It would allow firearms to be stored out of sight in a locked vehicle. HB 3559 is a Firearm Discrimination Prevention bill that would protect law-abiding gun owners from anti-gun policies by employers across the state, including forced firearm registration, random vehicle firearm searches, and “gun zone” parking lots for gun owning employees. HB 3559 coincides with HB 3560.

Please contact your Senator and Representative to urge their support of these bills. Thanks.

Jim, any idea if the NRA-ILA co-ordinated with the TFA on these bills? I know John Harris has mentioned many times how he/TFA was pushing a bill & the NRA came along like a 500lb go-rilla & came up with a much worse bill.

It doesn't help that there's no NRA-ILA dedicated rep for TN, they're regional.

Bob you raise a good question.

For an answer - I have no idea but I suspect they didn't confer with John or the TFA.

I'll do some checking and let you know at the TFA meeting next month.

NRA-drafted Senate Bill 3002 and Senate Bill 2992 have been place on the agenda in their respective Senate Committees.

Introduced by state Senator Mike Faulk (R-4) and cosponsored by Senator Mae Beavers (R-17) and Senator Dolores Gresham (R-26), SB 3002 would recognize that hard-working Tennesseans’ right to self-defense does not end when they drive onto their employer’s property or into publicly accessible parking lots. This bill would allow firearms to be stored out of sight in a locked private vehicle. Senate Bill 3002 has been placed on the agenda in the state Senate Judiciary Committee, and will be up for consideration as early as Tuesday, February 14.

SB 2992, also introduced by state Senator Mike Faulk (R-4), is a Firearm Discrimination Prevention bill that would protect law-abiding gun owners from anti-gun policies by employers across the state, including forced firearm registration, random vehicle firearm searches, and “gun zone” parking lots for gun owning employees. SB 2992 has been placed on the agenda in the state Senate Commerce, Labor & Agriculture Committee, and will be up for consideration as early as Tuesday, February 14.

Please contact committee members today in support of SB 3002 and SB 2992. Please urge them to cosponsor and vote in favor of these pro-gun measures when they come before their committee. Contact information can be found below.

Bob and others,

I spoke with both John Harris and Heidi Keesling about this and yes, the NRA did confer
about this. As you know Representative McCormick has now introduced HB3660 to
counter the original HB3560. HB3660 is the "worse bill" and we should do all we can to
get it defeated.
