I am coming down Thursday night to do some hiking with my wife and sister-in-law. We are staying until Monday.
I read your CC laws but I was just curious if there are any quirks or anything I should look out for. The part about whether or not I can carry on state land is kind of confusing and since we will be doing some trail hiking, I don't want to screw that up.
Also, anyone know of places to hike that allow dogs on a leash in the Cade's Cove area? We have a Doberman that LOVES the outdoors and we don't want to have to leave her in the tent...
Thanks in advance! I love this state and wish I could visit more often.
First, Welcome to Tennessee! have a nice visit, & spend lots of money!
Second, read the
FAQ sticky at the top of this forum.
Third, I'll net most of it out for you: with a valid carry permit from Michigan (which is recognized by TN), you may carry here (open or concealed).
You may carry in state parks––even if there are signs that say "no firearms", the law was changed creating an exception for permit holders. Because
of a change in federal law, national parks now follow state lead––so, in Tennessee, you may also carry in national parks (i.e., the Smokies). However,
you may NOT carry in many of the buildings in the national parks; they may be posted against carry.
Hope this helps.
David
Awesome, thank you for the help.
That definitely clarifies some things I was worried about.
