Grand Rapid Hotels?
Got a trip up there next week to close some business. What part of GR is safe to stay overnight at a hotel?
Is Wyoming/Southside okay? I prefer Hilton branded hotels like HGI, Hampton etc or even Hyatt Place and outside of downtown.
There is a Hampton Inn right off of US 131 on 54th street that's in Wyoming. It's far enough South that it isn't in a bad part of town at all. Just be aware that 131 can get kinda jammed up going into or out of GR at peak travel times. Plus it's right around the Corner from Silver Bullet, which is arguably the best gun shop in the Grand Rapids area.
There is a Hyatt Place located at M6 and Byron Center. Think it is relatively new.
2150 Metro Lane

Grand Rapids isn't Detroit or Flint or anything anywhere close other big cities in Michigan. Its Downtown is actually really nice and would be the best place to stay IF your business is downtown. If it is not, the Metro Lane Hyatt Place would be the best/newest. I would stay downtown way before I would stay at 131 and 54th Street.

Seconded. Downtown Grand Rapids is really nice as long as you stay away from Division. You could always stay at the Amway Grand or that new hotel, is it a Hyatt?
the new Hyatt Place is looking good, it looks like my Oncology account is near Wyoming.
It's not too far of a drive, maybe 15-20 minutes at most I'm thinking?

You couldn't pay me enough to go downtown, let alone stay downtown.
Obviously you have never been downtown grand rapids. It is very safe and clean. I stay down town quite often and hands down the JW marriott is by far the nicest hotel i have ever stayed at. First class all the way. You can walk to the BOB which is also pretty cool.

I agree. I had never been to GR until I spent some time there supporting the Betty Ford funeral this past summer at the Amway Grand. That is also a nice hotel and the surrounding area was very safe. Good restaurants and bars. Granted we didn't spend a bunch of time there but what we did see was worthwhile.

Went downtown 2-3 times after I first moved here. Now I avoid that place like the plaque.
Yeah I never have a problem going downtown. Especially if you stay more towards Plaza towers, the BOB, Amway grand and those places you're fine. The only places it gets shady is down on division a ways and wealthy. Otherwise you just run into the occasional bum downtown. Avoid the streets around 2 am unless you want to deal with a bunch of drunks. Other than that it's much safer than most cities downtown.
