My job is taking me to the Ludington area for a while.

Besides fishing, what is there to do around the area?

Ludington State Park has lots of hiking trails and a few bike trails. If you drive a few miles to the east there are a few quad trails. Other than that just stare at the bikinis...

You could always drive down to Silver Lake and rent a Jeep/dune buggy/quad for an afternoon.
There is a place near Shelby that does paraglider tours.
If you're into gluttony, checkout the Pigs Diner at the House of Flavor, or just get an ice cream cone.

When will you be there, that can make a lot of difference as to what local events are going on.

Ill second the silver lake sand dunes, depending on when you are there you could go south to michigans adventure (amusement park) if you like larger cities go north to traverse city or south east to grand rapids
There's a couple of casinos not far away if that's your thing as well.

There is a free public gun range about a half hour south of Ludington. Click here for directions. If you do make it out to Silver Lake and want to take a tour on the dunes check out Razor J's Adventure Tours.

Thanks to all for the ideas. I will be heading up this weekend, and will be there on and off through the beginning of August.

I'm pretty stoked about all the beaches/lakes/fishing/forests and of course bikinis when it warms up.

I will certainly check out the public gun range. Checking out the Michigan laws now concerning bringing a gun up with me. Since I am from Illinois, Republik of, we don't have concealed carry, so reciprocity is out. I'm not concerned with carrying, but would like to be able to bring a couple handguns with me.

There are some nice golf courses in the area if you play.

Rent a kayak and paddle down some of the rivers. I'd make a trip up to Manistee, as I like the area.

Third on Silver Lake if you want sand dunes.... Traverse City over the Fourth of July has a Cherry Festival with airshow, but it can get pretty crowded.

There are wineries all around the Traverse City area, and most of Northern Michigan is lakes, state and fed parks and forests, etc. Enjoy!

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Been up here almost a week now, and the area is very nice, and the local beach is beautiful and clean.

I will check out the free outdoor range this weekend. It actually isn't far from my work site.

If I head up to Manistee, what should I do there?

I checked out the gun range near Hart. Hard to believe it is a free range.

We have ranges back home that aren't half as nice that charge $100+ a year to be able to shoot.

The Dunes up at Ludington State Park are nice, and so are the river trails.
I will be checking out Silver Lake in a couple weekends when my family comes up.

thanks for all the suggestions

I ran over to Baldwin to check out some bikes on saturday. Had a good time.

Love the grinders from Mancino's. Thats a huge sandwich for under $6.

What is the sand flea?

You could take the ferry from Ludington to Milwaukee and spend the whole day at the Harley Davidson Museum.

Stay safe
