I spend almost as much time in Kansas and Nebraska each week as I do at home in Missouri. My travels are feedlot country in central and western ends of both states.

Have been with Sprint for over 10 years.

My question is this, who covers rural Kansas and Nebraska best ?

Sprint has given up a lot of coverage in an effort to sustain profit so I know Sprint's not an option.

Alltel used to cover more rural area than anyone until purchased by Verizon. Just thought I'd check here before doing a Verizon contract. Thanks.

Verizon is going to have the best coverage, but there are still large sections of the sandhills that are only covered by satellite phone.

Sprint roams through Verizon.

ETA:
That is to say that you will use Verizon's towers for roaming if they're available, but Sprint towers take precedence.

Im a storm chaser and I use Verizon so that I can have the best coverage for data on the plains. Verizon hands down has the best coverage. An amplifier helps alot as well.

I use Verizon and I want to know what this amplifier business is all about. Our service sucks out here no matter who provides it.

Do a search for Wilson Trucker antennas and amplifiers.

I travel for KDOT all over the state and as much as I hate to admit it, my Tracfone seems to get better coverage than my AT&T State issued phone.

It has all changed, but back in the Alltel days, AT&T used to roam off of them. I don't think they had a single site outside of a city with less than 100,000 population. Verizon bought Alltel, and had to split the sites with AT&T to keep from being a regional monopoly, but I'd bet Verizon kept all the good sites.

My opinion for future reference: U.S. Cellular isn't a bad choice, but avoid Viaero at all costs... Overall I am a huge fan of Verizon. I work for a cell service company and we travel all over the mid-west and rarely loose service (all the trucks have the Wilson amps in them). I've also seen the quality of work that AT&T pays for, its not pretty.

I don't know anyone with an AT&T LTE phone to compare, but the Verizon LTE network in Lincoln is crazy fast. In Omaha you can get 15-20 Mbps with averaging 10 or so, but in Lincoln I've hit 42 Mbps a few times, and regularly come in at 20-25 Mbps.

ETA: That was also like 5 hours before a football game at the stadium, so there were quite a few extra people on the network as well.
