Machine shops for cylinder head work in central AR?
I need a 4 cylinder, watercooled VW 2.0 cylinder head rebuilt. Is there a "go-to" place for that in LR? Any place to avoid?
Go to www.vwvortex.com and check out the local forum for Arkansas folks. There is a very long thread that the AR VW folks use.
The Arkansas watercooled VW scene is actually pretty large nad there are a bunch of knowledge people in that forum. They will know the best place to go. All the machine shops that I know in LR specialize in domestic v8 stuff. A 5 valve VW head probably would be out of their league.
Second option: call Leonard at Auto Sports Center (501 375-7223) and ask who he recommends. He used to have the best machine shop in town, but sold it to a guy named Eddie Hines in Jacksonville. I think Eddie retired, but Leonard should know all the good local machinists.
