NMHTF member's hobbies
So, it's obvious that we all are on this forum as a result of our interest in firearms (AR15s in particular), but what else do you guys like to do? I thought this would be a good chance to share a little more about ourselves and our interests/hobbies. The responses can be anything...maybe your main interest/hobby is firearms (post a pic of yourself shooting), maybe you spend all your free time with your kids/grandkids (post a pic of them), hell maybe you can fly a plane...you get the idea...
I'll start: I've been riding motorcycles for ~18yrs. Before I left Cali my Dad and I would try to ride about once a month (I definately miss that

). Now in NM, I've found several guys at work who like to ride so I've been able to hit a few rides with them. I think that the Crest Rd, behind the Sandia's, off of Hwy 14 has to be one of my favorite roads. Below is a pic of my Dad and I on a ride and also a link to video I shot heading up the crest.
Youtube clip: MC ride up to peak

I'm a nerd.
Warhammer 40,000
Also video games and reading.
When I have the opportunity I like to play hockey, golf, tennis, and volleyball as well.
I'm a bit of a motor head. Have been working on this, off and on for several years. Yep, a cruise up Sandia is nice. Here's a pic from the Jemez...
What a pimp.

Knitting, cougar chasing, trolling the HTF, and being the best dad I can be for my two kids.
One of those is a long running joke, you pick which.

The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment. Search for a geocache below or learn more about

Geacaching is a lot of fun and my kids love it too but I haven't done it in a while. We should start again now that the 4x4 is operational...

I like to do a little riding once in awhile:
I also want to get into Cowboy Action Shooting.....I plan to join up with the "Lincoln County Regulators" when I move out there next year....

Great post guys; my other hobbies are bow and arrow making, and flint knapping.

A couple guys mentioned bows and bow hunting. I used to go with a friend of mine, but it's been a few years. This one I got for Thanksgiving, but my wife wasn't very happy. By the time I got it home it was completely gutted and de-feathered (basically looked like I had just picked it up from Albertson's) but she still wasn't feeling it...

Nice. Would like to try flint knapping. So many interesting things to do, so little time....

Talk about unappreciative!!!
Good kill.

<-Ham radio.
eta To my credit, I started one of the longest threads on ARFCOM:
Everything you wanted to know about ham radio but were too confused to ask!
Frank,
That's interesting. My brother K5LA has a amateur extra ham license and he has been complaining that the requirements have become far too easy; along with dropping the Morse Code. I still remember him keeping me awake at night into the wee hours with that racket when we were teenagers!

Flint knapping? Are you making arrowheads, spear points or both? That seems like a bit of a lost art, but an interesting craft to times past.
I like to build things...all kinds of things.
Actually made some good money rebuilding & modifying aircraft...
and my hobbies are similar. Of course once my friends found out, I gained a few dozen more projects to play with...
1956 Desoto Firedome. Under all the original paint, is 50% steel and 50% rust. But everything is still there and all original.
A crash-proof vehicle gate, unless you're driving a dump truck. The outer posts are set into 1200 lbs of cement.
Widening and lengthening a trailer by 12", to support a 10,000 lb load.
Adding a wheelchair lift to a van. The lift had to be chopped 12", a new ramp made, and numerous other mods.
I'm not at liberty to talk about this one. But I will be at the racetrack to watch it smoke the competition.

Impressive.

Sure!
The odder, the better

I love a good challenge.
I'm currently building a mobile fabrication/restoration/machine shop. Hope to get it on the road this spring and do a few shakedown trips. Aviation died two years ago, and still hasn't shown any real signs of recovery, so I think I'll give this a try.
Dude,
You sure are getting a lot of mileage out of that stuffed fish you bought at Sportsman's Warehouse.

just kidding.
Really nice buck BTW.
I thought I would post again to give this tread a bump.
Here are a few pics of when I used to do a lot of wakeboarding. This is when I
used to live next to a lot of water (that's one thing about NM...very little H20

). I think most of these are before I blew my knee out a few years back and had to have reconstructive ACL surgery

That's freakin' awesome!
We have some lakes around here and a surprising number of boat dealers. Never give up!
GAU5-A-A,
Would you be interested in welding-up some reactive targets? We could trade trades...

Sure.
Be happy to.
If you can draw it, I can build it. Done lots of projects from napkin drawings.
IM incoming.
Incoming?
Duck-and-covering!
I never hit this thread before, so here it is.
Simple
Winter bird hunting. Mostly ducks & geese
Summer golf
This was Saturday (Jan 29, 2011)

Nice birds, Fowler!
When are you gonna invite us on a NMWTF fowl hunt?

I didn't know we had so many fowlers around here.
The hunting has been really good over the last 2-3 weeks. Of course that always happens right before the end of the season.
I would enjoy a group hunt. We will have to put something together for next season. The pacific flyway ended sunday. I don't know about the central flyway.
That is only the 4th & 5th wood ducks I have ever shot. A double
2 years on closing day I shot a double. A drake & a hen.
My 1st was a hen about 5 years ago.
These 2 will get mounted together somehow. His plumage is a lot better than the other drake I shot.
My search for the elusive Pintail continues.
Thanks!

I will shoot at what ever is edible, and some things that aren't. I enjoy the getting together and hanging out probably more than the shooting.

I haven't shot a pintail in New Mexico in years. About 6 years ago, or so, we couldn't keep them out of the dekes. They were like flies for several years. Now nothing. Never shot a wood duck in NM. Do you see cinnamon teal in Sept on the pacific? Only shot one on the Rio.
