Just noticed this link over in the AR forums. Are the prices listed fairly typical?

Most AR related items are very expensive outside the US.
I purchased my first DPMS made AR15 clone (sold by Oberland Arms in Germany) in 2001 for about 1800 US$.The same was sold in the US for 800 US$.Even small items like scope mounts etc are damm expensive.

Why are they expensive?

US DoS export reg's… you need a $100 export licence to export ANY AR15 parts now.

I was guessing it was something along those lines. I then assumed locally manufactured ARs and parts were of low number and required the added cost due to not being mass produced. Is that also the case?

Yup, Oberland have to CNC machine their uppers and lowers from billet and make their barrels from Lother Walter blanks at £300 (@$525 just for the raw barrel blank!) a pop…
