A furious mob has desecrated dozens of Commonwealth War Graves in a Libyan cemetery amid continuing fury in the Middle East over the burning of the Koran by U.S. soldiers.
Headstones commemorating British and Allied servicemen, killed during World War II campaigns in the Western Desert, lay smashed and strewn across Benghazi Military Cemetery.
Protesters rampaged through site on Friday, despite efforts by America to calm tensions sparked when it emerged U.S. soldiers had burned Muslim holy books in a pile of rubbish at a military base in Afghanistan....

Agree that it's way past time that we stop trying to police these 2nd / 3rd world countries.

Then again, after years of an oppressive regime it should be expected that people will go "a bit mad" when there is a power vacuum
It doesnt really matter what they do to the graves........while it is a despicable thing to do, it only serves to make us back in the UK think more about those who served and were laid to rest on foreign shores.
They can break headstones, but our recognition, respect, and appreciation isnt shaken by shithead acts like this.
Also, this wasn't an act committed on behalf of all Libyans, just a few fuckwits venting their spleens.
The irony is that if it wasn't for British interventions they would never be allowed to express themselves in such a manner.

Did a full tour of british and american war graves around the local cemetaries a couple of years ago (mostly bomber crews and a few fighter pilots) and this type of anger venting only shows how primitive these idiots are. They have elected these jerks in Egypt and we'll see how fast that country can sink into chaos and poverty. My old schoolmate's mum is egyptian and her family is slowly pulling out of Alex to european cities. Sad it has to be that way. If the Libyans do the same, we always have the option of not bying their oil. That's why oil sand and shale gas is not so stupid as it seems to some.
